Ooooo! I liiiike it! I'm a sidecar-fan too, so this is definitely my cup of tea. Not wrong at all, just different.

tricky 13-01-09 22:33

hansP do you recon its home made or factory made i bet its a right laugh in the snow

NickW909 13-01-09 22:41

Well that sure solves the problem of which panniers to buy !!

You could get a hell of alot of beer in that sidecar trunk !

Nick.

The rig has German plates. I have never seen a sidecar like that from any of the larger producers like Armec, EML, EZS and the likes. However, Germany is crowded with small workshops who are making their own kind of special sidecar rigs, just like this one, in very limited production runs. Sometimes only a couple or three rigs in total. This one looks very professionally set up, so I suspect such a workshop has had a hand into it. In any case this is probably not a set you can buy for the XTs like you can for e.g. large BMWs, Honda, Guzzis etc.

Some people should be shot first.......:067:

...... then shot again.:068:

them and those poxy ramblers, blinking red socks brigade!

afk40 14-01-09 02:25

A want one o them.. thats way Cool..ave always fancyied a side car effort

Gas_Up_Lets_Go 14-01-09 08:39

OK, so the sidecare thing, each to their own I suppose. But what's with the Citroen wheels on the XT ????

To me it's a bit like having a trailer tent, all the downsides of camping along with all the downsides of a caravan. Here you have all the down sides of a bike, along with the downsides of a car........

Of course I accept that riding on snow/ice bound roads excuses you :033:

HansP 14-01-09 10:30

Riding a sidecar rig is a completely different sensation than riding a bike or driving car or pushing a rollator for that matter. It's actually quite fun to try to master the beast. Lifting the sidecar in tight, fast right bends (left bends to you UK guys) is thrilling, to put it mildly. Obviously a sidecar rig also has tremendous advantages on snow and ice, but even on gravel it's fun to drift the beast. It's so easy drift or skid with full control through bends and corners. I assure you, it's really fun! And I am hooked on everything that is fun and has a bike attached to it.

I can only applaud anyone who modifies their bike in such a way that it fits their own needs. The fact that it is originally an XT only adds to the charm and individual character of such a machine. Some on this site enjoy adding expensive bits and bobs to improve the looks - in their eyes - of the bike whilst some modify for performance and others for both.

Having learned to ride my uncle's ex WD BSA combination on the towpaths of the Manchester canals from the age of four I still have a soft spot for sidecars and remember travelling across the pennines in all sorts of foul and fair weather suitably dressed for it. It may not be to everyone's taste but it shows an enthusiasm and love for motorcycling which is well in tune with what I believe is the purpose of a bike - practical and enjoyable transport for domestic, business and pleasure travel. Long may the spirit of two-wheeled based travel flourish despite the detractors and draconian laws and attitudes of the 'elite' and the blue pointed heads.

Good to modify for lifestyle and paracticalities but come on, there are better looking sidecars out there than that, it is hidious, and like GULGO said - whats with the 2CV wheels and in yellow too?:Itching_KFKKYE:

He could have added that very personal choice chair to a Hog base - at least he got the bike right!

The practical reason: To be able to use car tyres on it. Car tyres lasts longer than motorcycle tyres on a sidecar rig. Why yellow? Have no idea. Maybe he's chicken?

tricky 14-01-09 19:11
