Tank Bags

Anyone out there who has fitted a Tenere specific tank bag yet?

Would appreciate your views - so far the only one I have seen (on the net) is the 'Off The Road' bag - anyone got one of these?

Cheers!

bags

Hi, I haven't bought one yet. but touratech do a tenere specific one, and baglux do one too. My old "strap-on" won't fit, as the tank is too short, so I'll be looking to buy either of these myself in the new year. :deathmetal[1]:

I use a Hein Gericke tank bag and just had to cut the base slightly to fit around the filler cap. Any good?, not a bad size, expandable and fits quite nicely.:occasion14:
Can get better pics if you so wish!
Currently around 40 ish.

A friend of myne has SW-Motech QUICK-LOCK tank bag and he is very pleased.
Pics of it you can find at http://www.moto.gr/forums/showthread...54#post1315554

Me too, just need to cut away some of the rubber on the base - I doubled it up with a sheet of 'Oxford Mat' to give a bit more grip and less movement.

Great picy Steve - that Khaki ten on the right looks the dogs........ and that hansom chap in the green tee-shirt looks like a true hardcore rider :icon_clown:

I've contacted SWM when I first got the bike in June. As far as what they told me, this tankbag is not 'quicklock', what your friend has as shown in the pic is the usual strap/tie-down system. Quicklock has a ring mount right on the tank cap, and the tankbag would have the male/female mount to snap into the ring on the tank cap, so the tank bag would not even touch the tank. I have two on my old BMWs, and yes they are a great system and the quality of the bag is better than stock BMWs IMHO. But the system doesn't work on Tenere because a) they don't have the ring that fits the new 5-screws system on the new Tenere, and b) position of the ignition key hole would be in the way of the tankbag. It's really a shame.

Personally, because of the short tank area and the position of the ignition key that makes it hard to find a proper tankbag, I find it claustrophobic to mount any tankbag which inevitably gets into the front part of the seat area. I had a Held square-shaped tankbag which I thought its shape and size would fit well enough to the Tenere and I rode with it for 7000km, but I just find it obtrusive optically and limits my movements of standing up/sitting down.

Yes, sorted, I just whipped a few mm off the end of the HT lead and it's a nice tight fit again. Heading off out through Allston, Penrith then through the Lakes on Sunday. That is, as long as the roads are passable getting up to Alston.

A true triad of venturesome Tenere's.

Hi,
I bought a tank bag from off-the-road, and am pleased with it - although I 've not used it on the bike loaded up.

It does impinge slightly on the rider, but with a realively small tank area, I think most tank bags would.

Fitting wise, you attach 2 straps (1 either side) to the frame, just below the seat (these can remain on the bike at all times, just tuck the tag under the tank).
The bag base then attaches to these to straps, and one strap around the headstock. The bag then zips on easily.

I can get more specific photos if you are interested.

Thanks for the feedback guys - can't wait to see what Santa brings!

Looking at the pictures of the tank bag on the Greek Ten ( http://www.moto.gr/forums/showthread...54#post1315554 ) I notice he has SW frames, I need to ask some questions about the frame. Could anyone with any info on that bike drop me a PM

Cheers

yes they do! I have one mounted on my Tenere. I wanted to use the tankbag that I had for my suzuki SV (sport type bag) but when mounted the only direction the tenere goes is straight forward. Problems with steering.:037:
My girlfriends trail type tankbag works better. To solve this problem I ordered the touratech luggage rack to mount the ring on. The tankbag becomes a tailbag.

Baglux

Here's a link to the Tenere baglux tank cover:
http://www.bagster.com/en/showroom.p...8&id_moto=5204
Unfortunately, it doesn't show it on the bike.

Famsa tankbags

Ive used Famsa tankbags before from Winding roads. There the same make as Touratech used to supply.

I emailed the guy regards a bag for the new Tenere and here's what he sent me.

Sorry but you are wrong.....
Here (http://www.moto.gr/forums/showthread...&pagenumber=18) you can find pics of the locking system. As you can see its a 4 screws system.
And here (http://www.mo-tech.de/produkt/?produkt_id=1783) is the tankbag that fits with it

That's great. I wasn't aware of the 4-screw system they have. So that "GS" tankbag also fits? Do you still have a pic with the tankbag on, the old link doesn't seem to work anymore? So that tankbag doesn't get in the way of the ignition key I reckon?? IF so, I would have to add it to my christmas stockings :)

That's the one that's been delivered by www.off-the-road.de to me.

http://www.off-the-road.de/uploads/p...nkrucksack.jpg

I found it annoying 'cos
- it does get in the way when riding off-road and you want to move forward upon the tank
- filling the tank is cumbersome: the base-plate does move around a bit such that the spare isn't exactly located at the right position: the tank lid won't open/stay opened. Besides that, you'll have to unzip the tankbag at least half way to get to the tank lid, but then it will dangle at the left side and it gets in the way when you want to fill her up (assuming you're standing left of the bike)
- the map window isn't big enough to actually hold a decent map

So I strapped it on the back of the bike and use it as a tail-bag!

On the subject of tank bags, and frankly very good luggage, I picked up a Kriega 'tank' harness at the NEC and fitted it to the Ten earlier this week. It allows you to fit any of their tailpacks (US-5, 10, 20) as a tank bag. The Ten's small tank will happily take the 10litre pack and it keeps it well out of the way of your groin. I've got a 5 litre pack fitted for everyday use and as a nice side-effect it helps disrupt the airflow through the tank ducts. Very much recommended. www.kriega.com

Or try www.wolfmanluggage.com a US manufacturer of bags&things, highly recommended on ADV, www.advrider.com . They got lots of different bags. Greetz, Hans.

they don't have the ring that fits the new 5-screws system on the new Tenere,

if you look here http://www.motohaus.com/acatalog/Pack_system_.html they list a 5 bolt yamaha fixing ring, is this a different pattern to the tenere or has the range been updated maybe? i would be very interested to see how the bag sits on the bike with regard to your other points about rider / ignition key interference, as i too am looking for a suitable tankbag.

Pete.

I really like this system, simple and versatile. Found a Swedish dealer and gonna order harness, hydro-3, a US-5 and a US-10. Maybe a US-20 too so I can say bye bye to the yamaha panniers.

Have the one off a KTM 640 ADV on mine and it is the same as many others I have seen under differing trade names. Try e bay for the same.

Might be worth checking Lidl on 16th. Some bike gear including a tank bag.

http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pa...316.index.ar11

zOU 09-03-09 16:00

Yep, but I had the feeling the tank was plastic..hence preventing the use of magnetic tank bags ....

I didn't pay attention to this detail I must confess

stoic bloke 10-03-09 00:25

yep seen the lidl thing too, bought the tank bag from them last year for my tengai but it doesn't really fit the tenere and not just the plastic tank-magnetic bit, more the shape. will check out the smaller bag though.

i find the lidl gear top notch ,not always stylish but robust & functional i bought the textile jeans+jacket last year and have used for my commute and some offroading, a year on with no problems-brilliant and under 100 although this year it's up to 120 but still great value

bye

"Home made" tank bag: A cheap camera bag and a ol' belt. :D

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/9249/tankbag1.jpg

Edit: Already scrapped the belt thing, it worked as good as it looked. :p Got a new (better looking) solution now with straps that fastens behind the seat.
