Replacement handlebars
I am looking for 2 things from replacement handlebars,
1) Stronger 2) Higher. I plan to use Renthal bars. The std bars are 22mm and don't want to mess about with different clamps etc so that narrows it down. The Renthal product guide on B&C express has the dimensions http://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/cgi-bi...=HB-DIMENSIONS I have measured the standard bars as follows (not 100% accurate but close enough) Width A= 784 Height B = 80 Rise C = 55 Clamp D = 200 Sweep E = 135 So I plan to go with Bar 613 (Dakar high) , as these are also 22mm would they be stronger than the standard bars? Also any comments on the bend of these bars Thanks Scott |
Hi Scottnet - are you sure the sweep is 135?! Presumably this is measured in degrees from straight, rather than mm?
I've used Renthal 22mm bars for years, and they are super tough - racing or trail riding... although now I have their Fatbars on my XRs... I like the RC bend version, or the RC High bend if you are looking for more height too... very comfortable on the wrists, not too wide, and plenty of angle adjustment if you roll them forward or backward in the clamps... xxx |
I have put a pair of 613 Dakar bend bars on and KTM hangaurds, all fits fairly easily. With the bar ends off there is a bit more vibration. I was wondering if anyone knew of a bar end weight that would screw into the expanding bolt from the KTM guards ?
|
you could get the bar end turnd down in a lathe to fit into the renthal bars drill a hole through it get a long bolt and screw it into the expanding bolt

Don't know if it helps, but I added a crossbar to my Magura (fat middle 22mm at the ends) bar. The crossbar actually comes from Touratech that was designed for the R1200GS, but it fits nicely even with my Acerbis handguards mounts. A dealer offered me a solution where they can put the barend weights INSIDE the Acerbis guards. I opted not to go for it as a) I don't think it will work with the oil reservoir and mirror mounts, b) I think the crossbar actually helps a bit in minimizing vibrations, c) I now let the bike warm up a bit before I take off so this helps smoothen the bike, and c) the bike gets smoother the more I ride.

They are good for me, I am 182cm tall and I have cut 10mm off each end and have them more forward than the standard bars. This creates a good standing and seated position
|
Thank you; I will order one for me immediately.

Can anybody give me a fast webshop address for the renthal handlebar??

Just ordered one Gold color t-from a company called dirt bike express.
I hope that gold goes fine with the beige and black combination. I wanted to order a titanium, but they said that they only have silver, blue and gold. Blue is out of question and for silver I found it too shiny. So thought that, if it's gonna shine let it be gold, not silver. Have I made a mistake?? Should it be silver?? I guess I still have a few hours before they send it; so ideas are welcome. |

But a Gold Medalion goes with most colours..... So I guess it will fit the bike OK. I have seen Gold Bars and wheels on many different colour bikes so i think they should be fine. But there again I only see in Black and White... :angel1: |
My bike is the beige one; does it goes with gold color?
By the way, the black Barkbusters handguards have arrived. I am exicted to see all of them on the bike. As far as I can see; guards and the kit are looking good quality. |
Finally, yesterday I have received the handlebar. Today, I will be finishing the installation of, the handlebar, Oxford heated grips and Barkbusters handguards, will send a photo to the forum with the final situation.
Yesterday, I have made the holes on the handlebar -the ones to locate the starters and horn electonic sections-. I have to tell you that the bar is really thick; it took us a long time and still didn't make a hole, but it is enough. It seems like, the acceleration wires will remain a little bit tight, because the handlebar is slightly longer than the OE one. |

No that was not the reason but that did help. I did notice in the same position as the standard bars the cable was tight on full right lock but I had my bars rolled forward so that solved that.
In the standing position cutting 10mm of each end and rolling foward slightly made for very comfortable rideing. Sitting you stretch just a tiny bit but soon get used to it. So before ordering new cables I would suggest you try move the controls inwards as far as you can, this will be enough to free up the cable. Then if that all works out you can cut the bars, else you may need a longer cable |
Thanks Scott. I did roll the bars as forward as they can go (with my handguards), but after a ride I'm not sure about keeping them. The comfort of the position is spot on, but the vibes at 5k rpm are quite intrusive. I will think some more to see if I can come up with a way of adding weights to the bars.

Fairly easy to add weights see my post

Did the weights stick outside of the KTM guards scott? I've got wraparound guards similar to barkbusters, and to be honest any wider and it'd be even more hassles getting in and out of the shed. I might try extending the outer bolt and adding nuts to the inside of the bar.
|
Yes the weights stick out just as they do on the original bars, so overall the width is no wider than the original setup.
May need a bigger shed ? |
Oh I always need a bigger shed ;) Thanks for the info.
|
A bit of tweaking and the bars and guards fit well. Thanks for the tips Scott.

I have forgotten to send photos of the Tenere, with the new handlebar, grips and guards.

Renthal Dakar 613 high bars fitted today, as per the method described by Scott, cut 10mm off both ends and they are fine. Just need to get used to the slightly different steering position but makes a big difference when standing on the pegs in comparison to standard bars....
