Well, I'm disappointed by the level of replies so far, some of them bordering on rude. It was intended as an open, constructive discusssion. If everyone in the world was as blinkered we'd never have gone to the moon. I guess if there is no direct bhp figure for a particular mod nor a bling factor of zillions people don't want to know. Good luck to y'all.

No DanG it's not like that, people wouldn't be rude here for no particular reason, some of them also pointed you in the direction of a technical estimation done by our Kev which shows the amount of HP gain from removing various parts from the bike, I think overall the thread was quite constructive, there have been some strange responses, I admit, but then... you did suggest something strange yourself when you said "Perhaps I should remove the radiator fan, because mine never comes on". Was that not borderline.... how can I put it... silly?

You have to appreciate people gave you their honest suggestions and other responded with sarcasm in response to some of your more 'riskee" suggestions. You can't blame them for that.

No need to get offended i think...
If you look through the threads you'll find one about reducing weight, and it was a pretty serious discussion.
There is a lot weight the xt can loose in my opinion but you'll have to pay a lot for it all.
Everyone can deside for him/herself if it's worth it or not...

G'day mate.

I have an Aprillia Pegaso Strada which has the same motor as you have and I've done most of the power mods (pipe, air, ecu etc) but not wanting to do serious engine work like Kev (not yet anyway) - I too am turning to the idea of loosing some fat from the bike. I've a background in bicycle riding and enduro and mx - all of which place a premium of loosing weight so i've been taking a long and hard look at my bike - looking for superflous things to get rid of. Alas, it is not easy.

As someone else said - the engine is where a lot of the weight is as well as the frame, wheels and suspension. The exhaust are the easiest place to start and can save you plus minus 6kg's which placed high on the bike - makes a different to handling. As for the rest - not a lot you can do really. Remove pillion pegs yes, lighter bars (negligible saving), lighter wheels (very expensive but best result performance wise). Unsprung and rotating mass will yield best handling and acceleration results (rule of thumb is that rotating wieght saved is worth twice of non-rotating weight). Hmmm - what else. You could start making your own carbon fibre fairings and covers etc (not very hard to do and does look great). At best however - I think we'll end up only loosing a handfull of kg's and that's it. Still, if like me you're a serial modder - it's worth it just to see if you can !

Good luck.

I have been looking at the motor & considering lightening up the engine casings as well.

With covers like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamah...mZ200240352586

Also make one up for the clutch cover.
