Can you all please complete these polls starting from this 1 - Thanks :)

As we dont have a feature which permits multiple choice questions to be answered with a yes or a no, we will ask some questions regarding quality and features and please thick on the ones you approve and if you don't, please use the reply feature to tell us where you disagree and what you think we should we do improve on that particular issue.

Please can you all try to do tihs poll as it will help us to help you.

Thank you very much for your time.

poll

I think that the number of posts from new owners/members proves that the Performance + Modification/ Ask Kev sections are essential reading, the XT is a great bike but needs some tweaking (blame the Euro emmission laws). The site has helped me a great deal, air box, co settings, made my own Kev mod, suspension (WP fork sprigs arriving today!!). The rides I have been on were good, a little under attended!! but good fun. It is good to swap information and ideas (even if it is the uglyist screen in the world Mick!!).Moderators are ok, not sure about Bucks tastes in music!!!!!I have recomended the site to others, hopefully the will complete the poll and give you their thoughts. All in all 10 out of 10, as to being more involved would love to but dont have time, buisness to run, time is money, money is time and all that. Alan

I agree that is a nice solution to crap crowd neither attending nor reading.

CaptMoto 11-09-06 13:24

Well I might email them all and ask them if they wish to stay and be active or prefer to be zapped :violent4:

no Spark it's not going to happen, my reply was a joke in response to a retorycal question, no one's gonna get zapped unless they have done something worth a cause of discipline and I can confirm to you that so far we are lucky to be blessed with members with plenty of common sense and maturity. If anything happened to you in the past must have been an error or something. :027:

xt660 11-09-06 23:21

I agree with the 3 month idea....it`s alright joining a forum, taking what you need from it and then doing nothing by way of any acknowledgement but that`s not cricket old chaps!!
A lot of other forum`s insist that a certain number of posts in a set period be made or you are forced to re-join or access to certain areas only.
I know you can`t make people post with a reply but let`s play the game peeps.

Then I will put it to the vote and create a "should they stay or should they go?" poll

AJT690KTM 11-09-06 23:48

So who will vote?????????

CaptMoto 12-09-06 00:57

Well if we do have a poll about silent members the question will be something simple like this

QUIET MEMBERS

Should they be allowed to just watch an never post?

Should we impose a deadline, after which their membership will be terminated?

The debate is endless:

I understand some people are naturally shy, others might have language problems and on the other hand, some are just simply not interested in taking part and only visit the forum to obtain the necessary info they require and then leave.

That is not to say that people registered by curiosity, saw that it wasn't of interest to them and never returned, becasue I know for a fact that 90% of our silent registered members do pop in regularly to have a look, learn what they need and then go back to their individual buisness.

Seen as this is a public forum, what gives me the right to impose a visitor my terms and conditions as to their membership? they don't pay me to be here and I certainly don't pay them, the interntet is free enterprise on the whole, unless you are buying into something you can pretty much scavenge for anything that might take your fancy, from free downloads to high purchases of services and products.

We had this kind of discussion in the previous incarnation of the XT660.com forum and I was one of those that insisted on motivating people into partecipating or get cut out and I saw the effect of that ultimatum didn't go down well and instead of making things better for the community turned the forum in a less pleasant place to be in than this is at the moment.

Low and behold people who just browse don't hurt me or you or you and so on, yeah it would be nice in an ideal world if they'd all come in and say hi my name is such and such and I'd like to meet you on rides and whatever, but then again you must realize some people also might probably be slighlty inconfident in riding their bikes like some of us do and might feel threathened to come out on a ride and be embarassed by the rest of the other riders who are more "veteran" in the matter.

Last year we went on a ride with 13 or 14 XT's and we had 2 guys who, were so slow that half way through the ride (after seeing a couple of other riders binning their bikes, don't even ask its past tense.....) said sorry but we are heading back, we thought this was a nice and gentle ride, and you know what? we were cruising at 60mph max!!! So as you see some people have a different perspective of a rideout and find it difficult to join in, come rain or shine, as some of us do.

I say let's see if a few months down the line there will be a need to cull members who don't post, after all, don't forget this new XT660.com is only less than 5 months old and its still in a phase of establishing itself within the internet realm, although we have: Yahoo, Google, MSN, Altavista, Jeeves, and many more other Search Engines on the payroll for scouting purposes, we are still a long way to go before we can call ourselves established as other major forums like the American ThumperTalk.com who is currently the world leader in the field. only problem is.... it's american and.... they don't do XT's

I welcome further suggestions even from those who don't post, maybe it might be worth hearing their side of the story as to why they prefer to remain silent.

Cheers

The intention was not to offend anyone, just a reply and a support to your post defining the word JOIN, and the apathetic response to the poll about the forum.

CaptMoto 12-09-06 12:57

Of course Alan your intentions are well understood, and no one's got offended I am sure, as you see, this is the beauty of having open discussions, we each have our say and opinions and we each draw our conclusions. Proves we are alive and have a will to express our feelings which makes us just about human, when not on a bike. :D

SyLx 17-08-07 13:46

Do you think overall this fourm is better than other competitor's XT forums?

:icon_twisted: The French forum is the best :icon_twisted:
lol

CaptMoto 17-08-07 13:51

Here's me wondering why are you here then? :warning1:

ManicMic 17-08-07 13:52

There was a French section on this site but the Guv'nor took it down as nobody was using it. Maybe he could fire it up again.

CaptMoto 17-08-07 13:53

over my dead garlick

ManicMic 17-08-07 14:01

Aw come on Guv. Even though I don't understand what they are saying they could post up some more cool XT pictures.

Dan71 09-12-08 10:19

Happy to do the pol but sad to see that there's not been much of a response. Any way some comments about the pol.Sponsored companies, truth is at first glance theres not much there for me and unfortanatly at least one of the sites I could not open.,But thats just me ,Im sure there some good stuff there and all sponsers are good things.
I would like to play a more active role in the site, but its a commitment thing, some times I dont get on the computer for a week or more .As for competitors, this site has provided me with everything I need, Ive had no need to even look at another site.(Your the only one for me:love8: )
But please ,please dont cut me if i dont get on the and make comment.3 months can go by pretty fast for some.Ive been into bikes for some time but im also into other things,Ive just completed something of a restoration on an old caravan and during that time ,although I rode my bike almost every day, it was low priority and any computer time was spent on caravan sites.(Its finished now and the kids love it,going away again in a week, cant wait)
Last comment ,you guys (moderators, admin ,Kev)do a fantastic job.It must be a lot of work, and you should know its much appricated.

CaptMoto 05-03-09 23:01

Thanks Dan71, and don't worry you're one of us now, you're in the army! :dalek:

Logo of XT and bike really good - I have been a graphic designer for over 25 years, so should be able to tell good from bad.

Arjen 14-03-15 19:53

The forum provides me with all the info I need so I became a supporter. I visit the forum every day. But I do not post much because it takes me quite some time to write something in English. At least, in English you understand ;-) So I am not so sure the "3 months no post and you're out" is a good idea :-)

dommiek 14-03-15 22:14

I also became a supporter as I'm impressed with the help and knowledge of other members. A great forum and source of information on the XT660's.

greatescape 15-03-15 00:09

Hi, what about people like me that are always bloomin posting.....are you sure I don't get on your wick..? !! I love the forum...so much good help and info. Nobody makes you feel daft for asking , and it's great seeing some of the mods/improvements people have done. I also echo the comment of dan71..the work of you guys, moderators /kev/ etc is really appreciated! Steve

Il Solitario 16-03-15 16:44

Hi Captain,

I'm not posting very often here, and the reason is a simple one: English is not my mother tongue. Especially in technical terms I need a dictionary very often, and that is a pain in the ass. So I prefer reading, and from time to time I will post some more or less stupid answers :smirk:

Concerning supporter status: I think it's for many "standard" members the same as for me: When I registered I decided to stay without supporter status, because I was not sure if this forum and I will become friends. And after a while it was normal to stay here for free...

But now I will do the next step and support the forum (and maybe I will pay for your next holidays :chevil )

See u
Solitario
