Another XT700 dyno result
1 Attachment(s)
I had the pleasure to test another XT700 today.
This one is running a stock XT660 sleeve, but it was bored out to a 102mm bore and re- nikasiled. I believe it has a 11:1 Wiseco piston in it, with a stage 1 raptor cam and the head was gasflow/ported. Unfortunately it was running a dynatek fuel injection controller, instead of the powercommander I normally use, so the midrange fueling is bad and resulted in a bit of power loss. BUT, none the less, this little sucker is STRONG!!! It clocked in on my dyno at 56.1HP. Yes, similar to what Kev got in his build, but keep in mind my dyno reads lower than Kev's by around 10 to 12%. That 56.1HP on my dyno would give around 62 to 64HP on the same dyno Kev used. I posted the dyno run of the 56HP xt700X (686cc) in RED and the blue and green lines are from a stock XT660X (blue) and the green is the same XT660X but with DNA stg2, powercommander and Leo Vince pipes. 47HP form a DNA stg2, PCIII, slip-on bike would give around 52 to 53HP on Kevs dyno. As you can see, the XT700 destroy the xt660. I am sure with the installation of a powercommander and correct fueling, we can sort out that midrange drop the XT700 has over the XT660 at around 4000 RPM and make it either very similar and slightly better in power. Wish Yamaha built the XT's like this from the factory. |
Nice results, 62hp at the rear wheel, for sure KTM 690 will eat dirt.Thats nice:love-smiley-085:...XT 700 definitely release the power and wrinkle the asphalt....

how come the two dynos read so differently? are the diff makes or is one not accurate?

Very nice results, at least we now know we can get some more HP from the head being ported.
I would not worry to much on how much HP the bike makes, but what was the gain in doing the mods with a before & after dyno run. As every Dyno would give a difference in HP & torque, the gain is what I always look at. 13.9HP @ 5000Ft + 10% Freez Dyno= Estimated value 15.29HP @ sea level the gain is a good result, mine gained 13.51 HP @ sea level over my standard XT660. I have compared these results from the standard XT660 dyno runs to the fully moded XT700 dyno runs. So we are looking at around 2 to 3 HP gain for the ported head, as the only difference between the bikes is the ported head. How does this compare to the Raptor HP output with the same mods Freez on your dyno? As I have said before I love my big bore XT, it really pulls well all the way to the rev limiter. Hopefully with a few people now doing this mod we will improve in HP & torque as the mod results come out. |
I would agree with you Kev, that the porting will add about 2 to 3 HP.
The 700R raptors with similar setup to this XT700, except for stage 2 hotcams also make around the 56HP mark on my dyno, but you have to keep in mind that the quads pull a lot of extra weight from 2 rear wheels, with steel rims and a very heavy axle. The stage 2 cam setup would add another 1 to 2 HP at the peak by my estimations, but the torque will not be as good as with the stage 1 cam. I will soon be upgrading the 56HP raptor to a bigger valve configuration and also we will be changing the Hotcams stage 2 for a megacycle X2 cam. Indications are that we will pick up 2 to 4 HP with that, maybe more. the stock bore and stroke 686cc raptor with megacycle X2, bigger valves and around 14:1 compression run around the 75HP mark, but the downside is you need very high octane fuel to run this setup. Lastly, my dyno reads lower than Kev's because I am at around 5000ft above sea level and they don't compensate correctly for the altitude changes. |
The Raptor boys love the
megacycle X2 cam, but they do not post torque values between the Stage 2 Hot Cam & the megacycle X2 cam.
I will be interesting to see the HP & Torque valves of the mod. When you are moding a motor for more HP it is hard to keep the torque low down. The min you give the cam more lobe center angle you start to loose torque but gain HP up top. I think I would like a cam ground with the same lift as the XT with the same juration & lobe centers as the Stage 1 Hot Cam. I think that would be a nice cam for the XT. |
