Washing your bike with DNA #2
Hello there fellow riders.
I am improving the air intake of my XTR. I have allready fitted K&N airfilter, and now I'm considering taking out the snorkel and purchasing DNA stage 2 filter. What troubles me is water getting inside airbox during heavy rain or when washing the bike. I know many of you have done both of these mods, so I'm pretty sure that I don't have to worry. But I don't want to be pretty sure, I want to be SURE. Am I again too cautious with my engine? :017: |
Water wont pass the DNA unless it's submerged and you open up the throttle.

Bueno, thats what I thought. However with my offroading skills and lack of common sense will propably get my bike submerged.

Also, having two filters back to back would mean less air entering, defeating the object.

I just want to make sure nobody thinks there is another filter behind the stage2 filter that "refilters" the air.
Sumary: the stage 2 filter won't let any water in but don't think there is anything else between your stage 2 filter and your engine |

Mate that is a great name, chilliconcarne and what a picture looks kind of freckie.
Anyway as all the other guys explained no a stage 2 filter will not let in water due to its design, but to get water up to that level would mean maybe causing other problems on on to getting water in the exhausts, or into the electrics of the bike (which i have just found out are not really water proofed that well). |

The picture is from Finnish comedy show called Studio Julmahuvi, wich translates roughly as Studio cruel fun. The guy is Jukka Rasila doing IMO one of his best roles as host of childrens show. Here is one example of their work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JIz7...eature=related |
On is a bit of a wierd video. But kind of funny when he trys and eats the fake childs head.

That's a brilliant video. Good post.
I'd love to go back to Finland again as it's a brilliant country. I miss the sauna, vodka, beer and oh.......the women. The only thing I don't like about the country is the mosquitos. ;) |

:smilies0345: I put a bag over my so I can use a high pressure cleaner
|
I used to put bag but that was kind of boring... Nowdays i just put a washing rag :) just in case...

The red colour of the cotton filter comes from the oil used to stop water and micro particles from entering the air box. It is also advisable to grease the inside locating lip of the filter when fitting to ensure an air/water tight seal. Personally I don't cover mine when washing and I would never use a pressure washer on a motorcycle. Aside from the air box, think about all the other seals, chain links, rubbers etc etc that you are essentially forcing water into...

I try and avoid using a pressure washer, and if I have to, only directed at localised areas of crud safely away the numerous areas where water ingress would be less than ideal. If you use something like this... http://www.sdoc100.co.uk/sites/sdoc1...toftheyear.jpg ...before washing, there is really no need to use a pressure washer at all, a garden hose (or even a watering can) will do the job just fine. |
