any way to set tps without diagnostic tool (for now).
what are signs that it's too rich or too lean? i feel as if mine wants to keep running a slight bit, when i ride it sporty :-) do i turn it a bit clockwise or anticlockwise? i'll get that sorted with the idle when i have acces to a diagnostic tool. don't think i'll need it very much because, once set up ,i'll never look at it again. that's why it's a bit crazy to buy one... thanks, Hannes. |

X & R can be checked through the dash, when the bike is at operating temperature the TPS must be in between 16 & 18, you can also check using a volt meter, as you are a supporter you have access to the workshop manuals feel free to down loan one & it will give you the voltage range for this setting, PM me if you need the password & user name. http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=84 |
so i connected a voltmeter to the yellow and black/blue wire.
to aquired the specified voltage, i need to fully set tps clockwise, all the way to the stops...wich is weird because i've never seen this on any other pic of the tps. BTW mine's a XTZ. :-) on idle, when i turn the tps anticlockwise, idle goes up and seems to run smoother. should i set it at the smoothest position and the re-adjust idle screw back to 1500rpm, or go for the recommended setting in the manual, thus in my case, set tps fully clockwise, to the stops to get to the voltage range as per manual? (where the engine runs a bit less smooth) can i see setting the tps as setting an airscrew on a carburettor, if so i'd go for achieving the highest idle +- and the readjust idle screw. thanks, for the advise guys :-) Hannes. |

The bike needs to be at operating temp, idle set to 1500rpm then set the TPS voltage, there is a few reasons to set it to the correct voltage & that is for injector cut on decelerations, the clutch switch when the bike is at idle & the CO base setting is used when the bike is idling. The bike will rev up when the TPS is advanced because it starts to run on a map with a richer mixture. |
sorry, i was impatient as i was working at that time on the bike :bigwink:

.. maybe I'm too dumb: 660 Tenere 2014 won't go into "DIAG" .. instead it changes the time :-(
|
@suse2003 ,our tenere's don't go into diagnostics the way the other 660 do.
for the ten we need a diagnostics tool :-/ |
Thanks for that info .. I thought it was lack of IQ ;-)
Diagnostic tool topic: ...is it proprietary YAMAHA device or is it a standard tool? Any chance to get that doe via laptop (like in a lot of cars these days)? Reason I'm asking is that our "city" has lost their Yamaha stealership and the next one is about 100clicks away :-( thanks Thomas |
try to find a local tenere rider and ask if you can look into it together with his/her diagnostic tool.
haven't heard from a connecting possibility with computer/laptop. |
