To transfer maps you don't need to run the engine while the laptop is connected to the Power Comm. but you do need it running when setting up the acceleration pump as the PCIII needs to calibrate the throttle low and max readings. Don't worry your laptop will not suffer any damage

Do not connect anything other wise you may damage the power commander. Single wire is for the TPS & the big 6mm terminal is battery neg, so wait for me to post the answer tonight for me & I will post the answer tonight for you.

Before you start fitting your PCIII remove the ignition key.

Lift the fuel tank & unplug the injector plug & connect this injector plug to the PCIII connector, then connect the other connector from the PCIII to the Injector.

The Grey wire with the quick connector from the PCIII connects to the Yellow wire on the Throttle Postioner Sensor, the middle wire on the TPS. Join the grey to the Yellow wire.

The single wire with the 6mm eye terminal connects to the Neg terninal on the battery, this wire is connected last.

You will have to reset your clock when you are finished.

Fire up your laptop load the software that came with the PCIII, connect your PCIII to your laptop, first thing you must do is set the throttle postion. The bike must be turn on for this but not running, click on the top task bar & select throttle position & click reset then open the throttle to full then back to the closed position, click save ok.

You are ready to load a fuel map. What set up do have on your bike (What mods) & I will steer you in the right direction on which maps to try. All the map loading is done with a 9 Volt power supply connected to the PCIII or a 9V battery with the bike not running.

If you do not want to use the quick connector to the TPS, I would cut the yellow wire a few cm's from the plug, solder the three wires together & seal it with some heat shrink. I am not a lover of those quick connectors.

Hmmm if I understand correctly I just turn on the key, but I dont press "start button" to start engine? How will PC know than how much I turned throttle?

I got no adapters with PC to connect to 9V Varta. So I just turn ingnition key on again and I dont start engine to load maps. Thats it, right?

I have XT660R, K&N air filter, Akrapovic SP series slip ons with no db killer and PC III USB.
Im considering removing snorkle but I dont know where to drill those 28mm holes... and gain is really not that big, is it?

THANX 4 YOUR HELP!!!!

You should have 2 cables one a USB cable from PCIII to laptop & a 9V power supply cable.

You can download the user guide from here, have a good read before you do anything.
http://www.dynojet.co.uk/powercommander/manual.htm

Below is the 9V adpter you will not be able to do anything with out it.

Great! I guess I got it with your help how to install PC. I'll post some photos when I do it :)
Now I have new question. Can I damage engine or something else by loading wrong map? What is the worse thing I can do? And what is most possible?
Thanx!

The best performance is obtained when your power commander is tuned to your bike by certified DynoJet technician. There is no immediate danger in loading the "wrong map" however there would be a long term danger if the map you are loading is either too rich or too lean.

If you join the XT-Supporter Scheme http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=1475

you could discuss with our in house expert Kev all the details relevant to your bike, type of cans, filters etc etc and he will be able to give you a map which is as close as possible to your needs. But I repeat Kev will tell you himself the best way is the expensive way at the DynoJet test. (Average 30 per hour, minimum time required is 2.5 hours)

I just installed the same version into my bike. It was used so I didn't get the little red thing with it (Cable tap?) but ended up crimping 'two into one' on the TPS. Works fine.

What a difference! Throttle response is crispy and quicker (still not instant, but so much better) and the power is just nicer all the way up.

Got DNA St 2 filter and K&N St 1 to go in when they arrive, then off to Sea Star for a dyno run or two.

Hmm. Since I cant find no topics about this I will ask here in my own, so I dont spam forum.

Well, official Power Commander III manual sucks. At least I dont find any use in it. Or maybe Im just too blind to find it. If this is so, please post me link to some good manual and I apologise.

My question is this: how do I use those low-mid-high buttons? I dont understand how they work.

So is it like this?
- I load map custom to my power commander
- if I press "low", than PCIII changes my map and my bike runs on low performance
- if I press "mid", than PCIII runs just like my custom map
- if I press "high", than my PCIII engine blows up? (I know it doesnt, but Im really pissed cuz of such :068:sloppy manuals)

Please explain it to me how can I use this buttons and what happens to my map or how do i recall my map without pluging in my laptop. Are those buttons usefull while riding at all?

Thanx! :100:

The 3 buttons on the power commander are to manually increase fuel on 3 set ranges, low, middle and high, they have nothing to do with the loading of maps. Ideally these should never be touched if you have had a custom map made for your bike, and you could use them if you were able to tell if your bike was lean in one of those 3 areas then you could increase the fuelling by altering the presets.

I can only suggest that you join the XT Supporters scheme because this will give you access to a download section for maps with almost any type of configurations, i.e. filters / cans etc etc and you could also ask Kev (our in house mechanic expert) to point you in the direction of the best suited map for your individual setup

to join the xt supporters there is a link in my signature.

Good luck

Mattithyahu 25-08-08 14:21

Thanx! You are always really quick with your replyes :mbounce:

Anyway, map is not such a problem, I just hoped those buttons are usefull. Maybe like this: when I ride fast and crazy I would set it to high, when I take my girlfriend down to seaside I would use low and save some gas. Or something similar.

But if it is like you said, than I will just forget my buttons and ride on like I did till now... :duckie:
