This thread is over three years old with very little progress. It appears there isn't much hope for the tank manufacturers to build some lower cost tank options. I emailed Safari Tanks in Australia, no interest on their part whatsoever for the XT660.

Oh well, thinking an alternate rear tank setup is the way to go.

Here's my setup. It a 4 litre can made by a company called Rotopax in the USA. www.rotopax.com

I have it fitted to the side of my bike but it could also be fitted onto any rack. It comes with a special fitting bracket which makes for very easy top ups :112:

What type of mount is that for the garmin?
Also, Wolfman pack looks the ducks nuts - waterproof?

The Garmin mount is the standard Touratech non lockable version and have it fixed to a RAM mount. Let me know if you want a close up and I will post a pic.

The Wolfman luggage really is good gear. It fits really well and is well thought out. The luggage is rain resistant but not totally waterproof. The company offer waterproof covers to fit the luggage if you need them.

I have been in contact with gilimoto and asked about shipping to australia.

This was their reply:

Economy – 8 or 15 days to received the tank - US$282,00*
Express - 20 or 25 days to received the tank - US$154,00*
*including tax

The quote I asked for was shipping to Victoria. I am hoping to purchase one soon for some outback trips. I will let you know how it goes after I find funds, wait for postage and get someone to fit it for me.

Approx $600 AU for a larger tank including postage looks a hell of a lot more attractive than the OTR one for somewhere around $1200 AU without postage. I may have to invest in some crash bars because from what i have heard the gilimoto tank is not as strong as the fibre OTR. But the good thing is I can easily afford crashbars and new riding kit with the $600 saving. I might even shout myself a new set of panniers :toothy9:
