Oh dear. :llorando[1]:
Pity you won't hang around a bit longer and someone might help you. ps. Might be an idea to stop banging on about what a good mechanic you are and stop slating your/our bikes. Not a good way of getting help really. |

That is exactly the point here:
Let me tell you, I have started this forum for one purpose and one purpose only. And that is to provide assistance WORLDWIDE to xt owners with any problem related to the bike. I am happy to say that I have succeeded in putting together an excellent team of collaborators, people who are worth their weight in diamonds let alone gold, such as Kev with his intensive mechanical knowledge, Freez just as Kev, and of course all my other collaborators who deal with the other tasks of similar importance such as the maintenance of this forum. People like Nein, Ranni, FM, MC, who provide their support with the software, the graphic and the not so often required task of controlling the peace. Needless to say I am someone who always tries to keep an eye on every single member of this forum, and their input and I am always on the look out for the next valid collaborator. A bit like a talent scout who always try to see the good element in people and hopes to find ways to apply his or her potential to the team for the benefit of all. But when someone comes here stating to be the next best thing to Andrew Newey (Mercedes/McLaren Team most succesfull technical director for 7 years in a row) then I would expect this person to talk the talk and walk it too. I would be extremely embarassed if I was that person and not being able to even adjust the idleing of an XT or the co2 settings. Now I have also based this forum on a code of respect between members, and mods / admins but.... If the pi$$ is taken out of you, you've only got yourself to blame, quite honestly. You have been giving us the big I am and produced nothing but rants and quite frankly a lot of bull..... I have never said this before to a member, but here it goes: You can stay or leave, but if you do decide to stay, please STFU and listen to the others and learn, be humble, be a normal person, put your feet back down on the ground and you will see other respecting you without belittleing you ever again. Myself included. |

If it wasn't for this site then my bike would still be like riding a kangaroo.
I must admit I thought I had made the wrong choice in bike when I bought my XTX but after reading loads of info on here I've got the machine pretty much sorted and can now say I love my machine. I'm not a mechanic but I do enjoy learning about the machine. This site has been a real godsend to me and these guys on here know their sh|t. Listen to 'em. BTW. You won't get it running like a 4 cylinder engine cos 3 pistons are missing. Plus, Yamaha dealers don't ride these bikes, we do so who should you be listening to? It's a no brainer really. |
I think bongoman might join the other xt forum after that.
I think what he was saying ,was ok, it was the way he said it. Learn to be abit more tactfull . if you dont mind me saying. :ytiller: |

sure ly i can set the idle and co ,but that just doesnt change one thing about my bike and that the fact that its a lemon.and if you or any of your mate on here want to take it for a ride or better still have a go at fixing it so it suddenly has bottom end stops stalling use reasonable amounts of fuel let me know, cause to be frank if yamaha after having it for 6 weeks cant get it right who can??can you?? i have never taken the piss out of anyone here but frankly to post such a rude reply doesnt say much about yourself in general .And who is andrew newey anyway i never mentioned him. your attitude frankly sux, your language sux and they way you reply to some also sux.so if i understand well here you can say what you like and the other can shut the **** up. perhaps you should put this on as your site moto....well done ...nice.... |
Dude,I think your fuel consumption is the giveaway. You should atleast get 170km till the light comes on.Has your TPS been changed?Whats it set at.Before the TPS recall my TPS malfunctioned & wouldnt go below 40,hence it was running very rich. Also if the TPS is set too high it tends to flood when the throttle is opened suddenly.

Think the main reason for the hostility and piss taking Bongoman is that you have come on here and slagged off your bike and said Yamaha are useless but you also say you are a race car mechanic and the team you are in are championship winners, thus suggesting you are a mechanic of some quality and standing. With this in mind, why are you not able to sort the bike yourself? I have sorted mine myself, by using information, tips and advice from the people on this site, why dont you do the same? Why would you need someone to come and do it for you? You are offering full workshop facilites and all tools, why dont you use them yourself? All the help and info you need is here, just calm yourself down and have a go. Would you really pay for someone to fly to you to fix it? I am sure you can do it yourself, ask Matron if you can have a look at it after breakfast!!!!!!!:byesmiley:

Bongoman, you are right. How rude of me to tell you to STFU. Who do I think I am?
Please accept my apologies for the language I have used towards you.
I don't act like this with any other forum members, it should not be the way I should be talking to people, but hey hang on a minute there is a limit to what anyone can put up with, I have seen, read and put up with more than can be deemed plausible from you. Like AJT660 told you its all down to the way you have come here and bragged about yourself. As for me I am the owner of the website and forum and I should treat everyone nicely, it's true. But just a minute, why should I? After all I am just a human being, owning the forum does not make me special so.... just for a minute forget the fact that I do own the place and let me tell you, if I pinch myself I do feel it and that means I am human like everyone else. At the same time I know I am not a push over, and why should I let anyone breach my peace and irrupt into my private life and bother me "after hours" like you did. The forum does not know (and I think it's time it does know) that you had the nerve to contact me privately by msn, one evening, to bore the pants off me with your rants about your bike to the point where I had to put your msn contact on ignore. Additionally, the forum does not know the content of the private messages exchanged between you, Kev and myself in trying to genuinely help you with your issues before we lost our patience with you. Every bit of information and help we have given you has not been received with gratification from you just because you couldn't sort it out, instead of thanking us for our time and dedication, all you could do is come back with more complaints about your bike and unhappiness with it and us. All I can do from my side is to be human and say a big Sorry to you for voicing my frustration openly, but we did try to help you, not just me but a whole bunch of us and you have not appreciated it. Now you are offering someone to come and sort your bike with all expenses paid? The thought of watching paint drying is more appealing to me, to be honest. I can't speak for Kev but since he is already in Australia, and if he is willing to help you I suggest you get into one of your racing truck (all good formula racing teams should have one) and take your bike from Bovral City to Brisbane to visit Kev and see if he is still willing to help you and demonstrate that it can be fixed. But as I've said he might not be in the spirit. Thank you and once again sorry for my language. Now please leave us in peace or I am going to have to really show you who's boss and silence you in the forum permanently. |

This thread is worth revisiting...
... especially for the newcomers to this forum.
I wrote the first post in this thread nearly 3 years ago. Some people said that this was the most appropriate reflection of what these bikes mean to us, and I am very proud of the comments received. Essentially the thread needed cleaning because of the "off topic" intervention from a number of idiots who luckily are no longer with us. But we then decided to leave it un-moderated for people to see exactly where we come from and what we've been through and where we are at now. So I would l like to invite all those new members who have joined us recently to read and reflect why the XT in all its variants X / R / Z is the winner, and of course from an owner point of view it has been said many times by a lot of you that the onwership itself would not be half as exciting without this forum and its members. I agree 100% |
Being a relative newcomer I've just spent a while reading this thread. I would like to say that I have done a lot of reading on this site and although Ive never said anything before I have used some of the suggestions and fixs to alter my bikes settings. This has improved some of the minor niggles that I had, although to be fair I've been very very happy with my R. My only regret is not buying 1 sooner. I would like to take this oppurtunity to thank not only capt moto but all the members as well for keeping the whole show on the road. I'm a happy bunny with both my xt and this forum. As bongoman proved you cant please all the people all the time, but then some people don't want to be pleased, what can you moan about if your pleased!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again folk, keep up the good work. |
I can't comment yet - but I will later in the year. But from a counter position, having got rid of my TDM last year, I needed some money quickly, and I think that was a great mistake, because they really are fantastic.
Interestingly the thread I started on Commuter Motorcycle Club was called "Transalp or Deauville...or something else" (which is pretty close to if you don't have an XT go for a TDM or a deauville). My finances meant I had a very limited budget - and the XT was a bargin (2415 miles and in mint condition, 09 plate for 4500 - with extras, centre stand, handguards and wind deflectors). The Q will be, whether I will miss the TDM for a significantly less powerful bike that I was in love with. I'll let you know. :105: |
When I first bought my xtx last year I missed the power of my xjr but I wouldn't be riding it with all the salt & sh!* thats about at the mo. This was the main reason for getting rid of the xjr, so I could ride all year round. (Just hoping when we eventually get above freezing that all the crud comes off.) :smilies0134: So glad that I found this forum so soon after buying the xtx, because with the dreaded surging to be honest I was starting to regret my decision. But not now, because with all the mods etc. that I have done it runs so much smoother and better. Thanks to Kev and the Capt for guidance and so many members that have written about their different experiences.:026:

Just been reading through this thread and have found it quite interesting so thought i would add.
I have wanted one of these XT's for a long time, the right one came up for sale on my door step, sold my TDM and bought it. I do not regret my decision one little bit and can safely say that i wont be changing this bike for many years.... Before i got the bike i spoke to SteveD about it and he mentioned that i take a look at this site as i would be able to find alot of info and opinions on the bike. He was very right, i have found the forum very helpfull and the people very friendly and have met some of the forum members and i feel forums like this make the whole experience better.. :WellDone_OROQR1: |
I deviated from the XT path earlier this year for a CBR600F2. I regret it now as I had my first ever off on a bike on the road, broke my ankle and finger. Would that of happened on the XT with handguards and half the power... One I have mulled over for quite some time especially from my armchair whilst unable to walk!
Anyway, that scrared me but I am starting to heal now, still not right yet after 3 months but already I have the urge for another bike. I am not sure what to get but I am sure if I do get one it will be an XT of some sort. |

Picked up my 11th XT660 last week, Ive had 9 XT660Xs and 2 XT660Zs, like most of you on here Ive had a lot of bikes but I keep coming back to XTs. I purchased a new one in 2005 when they where you princely sum of 4800 😁 with the exception of last year Ive had one since 2005. Ive made sure its backed up with a 4 cylinder steed this time 👍🏻
