Bad fuel

After a cracking couple of days battering round multiple fire tracks in Argyll I topped up the tank with 5 litres of, what I thought, was fairly fresh unleaded from a plastic can i had. Turns out the fresh fuel was anything but(I later found the fresh fuel in another can). Not sure the exact age of the fuel but could be up to 2 years old. Predictably I knew within 100 yards what I had done as the engine spluttered and died. Has anyone recovered this type of situation without resorting to getting to the fuel filter. I have drained the tank and my attention is to put a fuel additive in together with fresh super unleaded. Any help appreciated.

I ,like you, would put a bottle of Redex etc in it with fresh fuel..but first I would swill the tank out with fresh fuel..chuck it and then put more in with the Redex,or similar.
I use stuff from Euro Car Parts for my bikes and cars..ill try and link it..

Thanks Nikroc. I'll give that a go.
