I use Shell super,Tesco's momentum or Sainsbury's super...
Redex was 2.50 in Tesco's a few weeks ago..cant hurt none can it? |
Did it again this morning! I think its fuel as if you keep cranking it over with a little bit of throttle, it gradually splutters into life as if its just managed to drag the fuel through. It runs lovely after that?? I think the fuel filter is in the pump? Busy weekend coming up I reckon...

Personally I'd empty the tank and then put some fresh petrol back in,not a lot say a pint or two. Bang a bottle of redex in it and run it through.
Let the bike idle with occasional blips of the throttle..just because it feels good to do it. Just a thought but is your throttle adjusted correctly?.. reason i ask is you said you have to open throttle slightly to get it to start.. BUT thats me. |

Been out and looked at it today. Coil and plug cap resistances were all within spec. Trimmed the lead back until i saw shiny copper wire and even dabbed a bit of copper slip in there. Tried the old plug and new plug and it sparks but it doesn't look a nice big fat blue spark?
One thing I did find was when i lifted the tank up, the quick release fuel line connection popped off by itself? Bit miffed by this as it did behave like a bike that was running out of petrol, but wouldn't this line be pressurised and run erratically if pressure wasn't maintained, yet the bike ran well it eventually started? Anyway, after doing what I did, it started straight up, but it would do that sometimes or most times anyway. I guess the next few days well tell me how it is. I hate intermittent faults. |
Jeez, you're having about as much luck as I am...

This *MAY* be fixed?! I ordered a known good, second hand coil, to try as a process of elimination. While I was waiting for it to be delivered, I checked my coil with a multimeter and it was all within spec. But, as I had bought the coil, i decided I may as well fit it it before the new owner picks it up, sort of one less thing for him to check.
This morning I came out and it started instantly and i rode it up the road and thought, it seemed to have more power and was more responsive. Got out on the A road and it definitely felt more responsive and lot more punchy!? I guess if a coil is breaking down the readings it gives may not be conclusive? Anyone had or heard of that? I put a spark plug in the HT cap and span it over and i can certainly see a brighter spark. I guess only time will tell if that was the cause, but i'm only using it for the next few days, so i'll ask the new owner to let me know if it ever fails to start again. Either way, at least I didn't waste my money on the coil, lol! |
Hopefully you've cracked it now......Coils can be the home of gremlins that are so hard to track n trace, especially as a coil gets warmer.
