Getting Neutral whilst Stationary

Okay, I confess I am a noob with no clue. However I need reassuring that I'm not going mad.

The (first ride) with 2008 Tenere.
1) Can not seem to get neutral once stopped (with engine running)
2) Can not restart bike in gear with clutch depressed

Seem to have to turn off electrics and then rock bike in order to locate neutral. Not ideal.

Is there a problem with switch on clutch lever? Or clutch? Or me?

Cheers,

can you not adjust the clutch cable?

Thanks. Is it likely to be as simple to as that?

When was the last time you checked your Oil ?

I've seen this happen on a bike with too little oil.

TBH I would advise anyone to start with the simple options in problem solving...

Is the bike new to you?..It wouldnt hurt none for you to get a manual/join the forum(if you havent allready) and get access to everything your ever gonna need ...

Thanks for the suggestion. I had it to the local bike garage for a full service, new fluids/ oil, filters and 'check' last week before I taxed and insured it. Then took it for its first ride subsequently and discovered this little set of apparent issues.

Frustrating.

Isn't that exactly what he's done ?

Hmm... there are few garages in this area that are familiar with the semi-dry sump in these bikes and how to check the oil is alien to them.

Was it in the west of the county by any chance ? or the south ?

Thanks Gas Up,
I'm not South Lakes or West. Technically I'm just (a tiny fraction) outside the 'Lakes' in Eden (but to outsiders that doesnt mean a lot, so I tend to say 'Lakes'..). Obviously not wanting to mention the garage because that won't be on. However, if you can suggest a garage for the future I'd be pleased to take the tip.

A few folk outside the forum have mentioned clutch switches (broken or grimmed up). Is that not a likely cause in any one else's opinion? As I confess, I'm useless mechanically and tend to rely on professionals.

Cheers again,

it sounds ,from your description, that the clutch is not engaging or disengaging smoothly...the cables 'stretch' over time and its a very easy process of adjustment. Whilst your investigating lube the cable too..cant hurt none..
