Xt660r wtb size 17inch front rim
Hello everyone I wanna buy a 17inch front rim but unshore what specs I need to fit any info would be much appreciated
|
I don't think one from an "X" would be a straight fit as the forks are different, easiest way would be to have one laced to the existing hub, any good Wheelbuilder will do this for you
|
If you are going to lace a 17" rim to the stock XTR hub, and you're not changing the rear 2.75" rim to something larger, then there is little point. Generally the smallest/narrowest "sporty" 17" road tyres need a 3.00" rim minimum, which is 0.25" wider than the stock rear rim on the R!
You will need to change out both rims for something more suitable depending on the tyre sizes you want to run with. You will also need to use lowering links at the back or your bike will end up with a very nose-down attitude going from 21" to 17" and a lot of weight transfer over the front which will make things decidedly "twitchy" and 'turn in' will be fast and unpredictable. |
Thanks mate yes I plan to do the 3.00" rear rim I just wanted to know wat size I need the new front rim already got the lowering links ready

As in width

As I said earlier, the narrowest front rim you can get sporty road tyre for is 3.00" which would allow fitting of a 120/70 (just). Ideally you'd want to fit a 4.00 or 4.25" rim at the back to allow fitment of 150/70 and 160/60 tyres (normal for a Supermoto and standard on the XTX). A 3.00" rear isn't really wide enough I'm afraid for a decent choice of tyres, with a 140/80 being realistically the widest option.

Thanks for the info mate everything's orded should be done in a couple weeks your a legend

So I no the xtx has the different rear swing arm so your saying the xtr rear swing arm will fit the 4.25 rim with the 160/60 tyre?
