660 tenere shock linkage/swingarm bearings and headstock removal.

Hello folks. Is there anywhere that does a complete kit to replace all six bearings/seals/bushes/tubes .
I see wemoto do the swingarm kit and ebay a shock single bearing kit but I got this image from aj sutton?

And the lower headstock bearing outer casing sits flush with the frame tube meaning conventional removal is not possible, sometimes requiring a bit welded on to aid extraction. Below is a picture of the 2 legged drawer setup that will catch it. Although unattadox the central bolt pushes the arms out when screwed in and when tight against the lip knock the puller down with a drift as normal.

Hope this helps other folks with this awkward arrangement.

I only know of the Wemoto kit....not sure there is an 'all in ' kit. ...Steve

Just had to do my bottom rocker; as you say quite a lot of bearings and sleeves. I couldn't find any off the shelf bearings that would fit so just sucked up the cost from Suttons.

I've found wemoto do the swingarm bearings/bushes/seals in a kit delivered for under 30,which is much cheaper than suttons 112 probably plus vat price, although they don't do the tubes, which are cheap at around 6 each.
I'm doing a bit of research as all the linkage bearings/seals /tubes come to we'll over 200.
I've stripped this one and got almost all the bearing numbers (TA1720Z,TA1715Z and a hard to read one currently )and they can be bought much cheaper along with the seals. If this all works out the bill could be less than 90 as I'll probably still get the yamaha tubes.
I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Xt660z linkage and swingarm bearing/bushes/seal non dealer alternative

With the initial yamaha bill over 300 I think it's all sussed now.
Swingarm kit from wemoto (bearings, bushes and 4 seals)28 delivered.
4 off TA1715Z needle bearing, below swingarm and central linkage.4+vat each.
2 off 17x24x15 (bearing place says TA1715Z again) needle bearing with no other numbers, rear off linkage. 4+vat each.
1 off TA1720z needle bearing,top linkage.4+vat
8 off grease seals 17x24x3 or 4. 1+vat each
Above bits sourced from my local bearing shop but provisionally priced through ebay and google search.
I couldn't source the 6 inner tube elsewhere so 78 to yamaha.

So with the final bill around 150 it leaves more money for farkles.

Hope this helps someone else in the future :homework:

Hello harry.
I got those bearings and seals from your local favourite ,Advocet.

I'm going to try that local seat recovering boyo you mentioned, R+B to modify one of my seats and remove the step,as it's stopping my big hairy carcass from moving rearward while riding.

Hopefully the local xt boys on here could meet up sometime for a coffee, pitstop caf could be handy.

Good skills 👍 I'll be getting the swingarm bearing kit I think

Well done Cozi, useful information there.

Just also bear in mind that the swingarm pivot rides on two bearings on the outer sides and two solid bushes on the inner sides. When I stripped mine for the first time the bushes were actually in worse condition than the bearings. This is actually wear most of the seizing, squeaking and grinding comes from a tired rear end. You may have to factor in replacement of these (part number: 90380-22111).

It is also worth considering, if the bearings are OK but dry (no wear/corrosion), pulling out the MPL, cleaning them and replacing them with proper grease. The biggest problem with the swingarm pivot bearings is they have solid lubrication which is rubbish and means there is no room for grease on assembly. MPL replacements will only last at best 10-12K miles before its lubricating properties are spent and you'll be back to square one again. Removing the MPL and installing the needles with (waterproof) grease means you can actually achieve the 30K pivot bearing recommended service interval which is impossible with the stock set up.

Have a read of these threads if you haven't done so already.

Indeed, the swingarms pin bush area was much worse than the bearing section on this also.
Those replacement bushes also come in the wemoto kit.

I've added a bit to the original post about my lucky tool when doing headstock bearing removal.

All reassembled with the non yamaha bearings and all looks well. My local yamaha dealer also gave me a bit if discount on the 6 tubes which then came at 66 all in,and we're here in 3 days.
Weirdly I originally tired aj sutton before Christmas for the tubes and they told me the tubes would need ordered and not due until the end of January ,fowlers also telling me the same sort of time frame, and both were dearer that my local original price quote.
