Teknik VS4 Valves

I'm no doubt being dumb....but when I go on the Teknik shop website to order the VALVES I can't be sure if I'm ordering the correct ones....any advice please!, as it's from Aus I want to get it right...! Steve

The ones I fitted were part number 25-051-07.

Thanks Pete!! And yes....I am a pea-brain! Steve

More useful info!..

jo75 05-12-16 07:56

Now I'm being daft!..they obviously come as a pair?..I'm not sure which to go for , the road or the dirt!..

According to my receipt from Teknik, mine were fitted with the road type. They where fairly stiff to start with but have become more plush with a few K's on them. I rarely get to proper gnarly stuff as seen in some of yours & jon660z's photo's which the dirt version is more likely aimed towards, but the road one's suit me very well on dirt gravel roads.
Might be worth an email to them to see what suits your style jo75. But just don't expect a quick answer as I found communications a bit slow with them.

The Ohlin's shock is great at the rear, a bit over priced but it should be the first & only time I'll change it!!. Being firmer under acceleration the bike feels quicker of the mark with the lack of squatting down on take off.

I fitted #25-050-07, 36.0mm, V4s Valve, Offroad/Dirt to my bike. They work fine, both on and off road. The only difference I could possibly see between the on road/off road versions of the valves ( if any), could probably be, a slightly different spring tension being used.?

Pleiades 07-12-16 19:14

So Seahorse has fitted 25-050-07 (off road), I've fitted 25-051-07 (road), we're both running Ohlins 6.0N springs (I think?) and by all accounts we're both more than happy with the transformation in suspension performance both on and off road. This would tend to suggest that there probably isn't a radical difference between the two kits.

I think the conclusion that can be drawn here is that, regardless of which you choose, the V4S valves make a big and positive difference to fork control and performance.

According to the installation instructions I received with my V4s valve kit....

The V4S Valve is supplied with a 9.5N/mm spring with 3 turns of preload for DIRT or the same bleed and 11.7N/mm spring for ROAD (Other spring rates are available).

I think you would be happy with either option...If not, it would simply a matter of tuning or changing spring rates.

The majority of my riding is on dirt, accordingly I chose the DIRT V4S option (25-050-07).

I chose the road version for the exact opposite reason. Unsurprisingly, because I do the majority of my riding on the road! ;)

So in a nutshell, you need to be honest with yourself as to the balance of road/off-road you do and make the choice accordingly, although as Seahorse suggests, changing the springs at a later date wouldn't be challenging.

@Steve - I reckon you'd be better off with the 051 valves as a believe that your mix of riding is not vastly different from mine.

@Jo - I reckon you might be better off with the 050 valves as, from what I can gather, your riding is more like (or at least closer to) Seahorse's?

If you are still in doubt Steve...buy the ROAD version, and also order a pair of the lighter springs when placing the order...Can't imagine them being too expensive.!!

I have three turns of compression on my V4S DIRT springs (9,5N/mm) which is equivalent to 28.5N/MM of pre-load, you would get similar results by using around 2.5 turns or slightly less on the ROAD springs, but your forks would still be slightly firmer than mine.

Thanks Pete. ...I agree. Joe's riding is much more off road orientated than me....mine is more 'Grey' lanes with occasional 'proper' off road. If only we had the 1000k trails that Seahorse and Desert Racer and Dual enjoy on there doorstep! Hopefully when I get back Joe and I will do a joint order to Teknik. Steve
