1st snow of the year.
Got up this morning too find the first snow of the year for me. Luckily i still had my knobblys on from weekend.
http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...pscbskezx7.jpg A far cry from the sunny weather at weekend. Scarborough http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...psr80qwjmw.jpg And Hollinsclough in the Peaks. http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...psx4cundl8.jpg |
Great stuff Jon...your Tenere must be the hardest working, knarliest Ten out there!. And that is the biggest pannier I've ever seen! Steve
|
Awsome pictures!..love the bash plate.
|
Tough as nails that bike.
Have you upgraded your horn as well at some point jon660z ? |
Wonder how many more snow pictures we will see before the new year. Steve, maybe time to change your tyres.

Cheers guys, Daisy is a tough old girl. She takes a licking and keeps on ticking. At weekend i had too tow a dead 990 adv out of the bottom of 3 shires head in the peaks. Sadly i dont have any pics as everyone seemed in such awe of the teneres biblical grunt. None of them thought too take any pictures.
They said it couldnt be done. "no way, it doesnt have the power" But at 3k rpm the ten pulled half a ton of bike and 250 kg of riders along a technical green lane and up 2 miles of peak district roads to where the RAC agreed they would pick up the ****ty 990. I did toast my clutch in the process. But still pretty heroic for a bike that barely makes 50 bhp. The Panniers are the 2nd gen for me. 4mm alloy seam welded, dimensions are 300mm wide, 350mm deep and 550mm long. I got a local sheet metal worker to knock them up for me after i did him a few plastic Foreigners. Haha the horn was/is a bit of a joke. Daisy failed her MOT because the horn terminals had corroded away. The mot guy said ye had one kicking about but it was in his words "funny looking" 5 fitted it in car park and been using it for 2 years now. The bash plate, really earns its money it has been removed. Hammered/pressed flat countless times. The rear alloy lugs kept snapping so i removed them. Made a stanliess mount and riveted it too the alloy part of the bashplate with 20 yes 20 rivits. Never broken since. I powdercoat the steel crashbar part.along withy pannier frames JCB yellow once a year around this time too protect from the worst of the weather. I cannot imagine a bike that could replace the Tenere. It is a little bit special. |
Hi Jon , good to see your still taking daisy where others fear to tread afraid I have'nt been out since August due to various circumstances .

Not to bad thanks , would be good to see the three of you down here we'll have to arrange something are you sure you can cope with the wide open spaces ? He he .
I know this is a bit early to ask but how about the Pyrenees next year ? All the best Mark Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Good for you in showing the ktm up!..I too love the grunt of the ten seems to never end,if only I wasn't so far away , I would love to explore some of the lanes up your way!..and would definitely love the Pyrenees!..
|
Hi there, how did you find hollinsclugh on the Xt, I've not been brave enough apart from on me enduro down there. I have don three shires which wasn't bad and only other not tried is tenterhill if you have how did you find that.
Just for the record if you don't no tenterhill is under an attempt to closure so be worth goin on site and filling dispute form in |
Hi Hopper, i didnt do the extreme Hollinsclough just the medium spice one. Was ok though feet up most of tje way down. We didnt do tenterhill as the ktm breakdown eat up a lot of our time. We did monsall head over too brush fields that was ok once past the slick limestome section. Objection allready logged on tenterhill also.
Mark id have too do some serious arse kissing for the missus too let me.go too the pyrenees. Ill try though haha. And Jo if you ever wanted too make.a weekend of it we could do any lanes you want. Its not so far 😀 as for the open spaces mark im sure ill manage. Remember flat and sandy 😉 |
Hi Jon
Looks like 2017 is going to be fun, will have to recce a route a lot of the lanes I use are restricted between October and April , a lot of beasties come out after dark in the fen !! Keep the Pyrenees in mind and start kissing now you never know? Jo , your quite welcome to try out the fens with us when I manage to sort and anyone else who fancies it. Take Jon up on his offer if you can you'll have a great day . All the best Mark Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
I'm considering it!..extreme hollinsclough sounds interesting, I quite like taking my trusty steed into tough situations!..

First you will need one of these. http://www.adventure-spec.com/defaul...0z-tenere.html You will be using it alot. :icon_razz: This is the tough section of medium spice Hollinsclough that we rode the other day. http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...psvunhgzdi.jpg Its rideable if you are confident whilst stood on the pegs. Its also lots of fun :glasses10: |

If i ever get there and there and the rocks aren't slick with mud and water, and i am no longer reliant on the Tenere as the household transport and shopping pickerupper and takemetoworker, I may be tempted hehe ;-) |
Hi Jon660z, thanks for the reply
I don't think I'd fancy hollinsclough steps at all as could be some breakages, good to hear you've done the tenterhill objection but brushfields is also on hotlist, I have done that on the Xt but only down hill Do you regularly get to the peaks as could mayb meet up and ave a run about. Peaks is on my doorstep really so could possibly show you a ride or mayb by sounds of it you no more than me or do you regularly ride sum where else and wouldn't mind taking a few of us out? Cheers kev |
Should be fine if your names Lampkin and you have a trials bike.

My main stomping grounds are between Stalybridge and Barnsley as you can put a good 8 hr ride together with lots of lanes around there. As diffucult or easy as you like. but i rIde in the dales and North Yorkshire moors, North Wales as well. If you ever want me too take you out gimme a shout. I dont mind travelling and if you have a look here at pics from my previous ride out in dales http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?...#post213575ics I know a bit of the peaks but more so up towards castleton and hope. If your ever heading out drop me a PM and ill tag along /show you what bits i know. Hollinsclough would be an incredible challenge on the Ten. But your right there would ve some breakages i think........ Still not impossible though. ;-) |
That's great Jon. Sounds like you have most ground covered. A couple of us have tenere so will get a meet up sorted and we can travel were ever also so not a problem . May struggle to organise something this side of Christmas but I'll definitely be in touch and work something out
