Error 46

Hi guys,

New to the forum I've recently encountered a problem with my 08 XTX that I think kev might be able to help out.

my bike has given an error code 46, but after charging and new battery the error code still remains, the bike runs and starts fine the only problem a can diagnose is a slight high pitched whine from the front of the fuel tank area. Doesn't sound the same as the bike priming before startup? any help would be amazing thanks guys!!

just did a quick forum search using the title 'error codes'...46 = fuel system power supply not normal...

the 46 aka the Valentino code ;) is correct, but often the cause can be a faulty fuel pump, which has shown to trigger the same error code. If you can't service this yourself better take the bike to an authorized Yamaha repair centre

High pitch whine from fuel tank + Error 46 = Fuel pump on its way out

Usually caused by wear in the motor causing it to draw a larger than normal current which in turn causes a voltage drop in the FI system, and this is what causes the ECU to flag up a 46 code.

Don't fret though. Although the Yamaha price an eye-watering 550, you can split open the pump's housing and replace the actual pump inside for around 30/40. There are many sellers on ebay offering suitable pumps for XTs. DO NOT go to a dealer because all they will offer you is a complete Yamaha pump assembly, plus fitting/labour, which will more than likely end up heading the direction of a four figure sum!
