Clutch slips - is it done?
 

XT660X -06, 25.000km ridden.
I changed oil at the season start in spring and started noticing clutch slip on hard accelerations. Oil was Motul 5100 Tehcnosynthese 10W-40 (as recommended by manual).

I remember that once serviced on bikeshop, they used Castrol 1Power 15W-50. Also remember that after that service, clutch was VERY grippy.

So I thought maybe this is oil related problem. I checked and double checked Motul I had used, and it should be good for bike. Now I just changed oil again (after 5.000km), this time Bel Ray "Thumper" 15W-50. All specifications are ok for this oil and it should be designed especially for single cylinder wetclutch bikes as XT660.

Test ride gave good feeling, motor seems better and gears work like charm. Clutch slipping is bit less, but still there... Full acceleration at gears 1-3 is ok, but 4-5 has clutch slip on hardest torque range.

I have also checked and adjusted clutch wire to loose enough, so it should not be "holding" the clutch.

Anything else I can do or is my clutch plates done?

Asked my local bikeshop for clutch plates change - 250e just for parts and at least 1 hour of work (70e/h). Plus oils, of course. I see that I can buy full clutch plate kit (plates, springs, gasket) for under 100e myself. So I'm really considering to do this repair myself. It shouldn't be to hard? Anything special I should know about it, I do it myself?

Is it necessary to change clutch springs also, or just plates? (with 25.000km ridden)?
I'm trying to go cheap here :D
So are new plates and gasket enough?

Not entirely, but for the sake of �20 on springs you might want to consider doing it for peace of mind. After all, you don't want to have to be taking clutch apart again in a hurry. Up to you really.
