In which countries in south/latin America are the Tenere manufactured and sold?
My Tenere is on a ship on its way to Chile and I plan to ride around in south and latin America for some months - and thus I need to plan for service and a place to get spare parts. So which countries in south and latin America have the Tenere for sale? Brazil and Mexico as I understand but any other countries?
Thanks in advance! |
The South American market Teneres are all assembled in Brazil at Yamaha's plant in Manaus. AFAIK they are/were sold in all the South American countries at one point or another.

Hi Snakeboy
I am from Chile. On Chile the Tenere and XT are very popular so you wont have any problems here. Argentina, they only have the xtr and its use by their police so.... no problem there. Brazil, have factories that provide some countrys, they even have a little tenere 250. Peru, they dont have the 660 only 250 xt and 1.200 xtz. Just last year a friend o mine did all south america on her tenere and didnt have any issues. Sorry for my english, probably not the best. Good luck and best regards. |
Many thanks for answers both of you.
So Brasil, Chile and Argentina wont be any problems with parts and service. So I should probably get major servicing done there and bring the most needed spare parts up north as of Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia. |
I think I have some GPS cords for the 'moto districts' of a few countries where you'll be able to pick up most generic stuff. The only thing i would buy from Yamaha would be the oil filter, everything else was from the moto shops. Some Swiss friends had trouble finding dealers with air filters so make sure you get a cleanable one and do it yourself. The missus wrote a little book full of handy tips if you're interested.
