Exhaust popping

My xt660x has the standard exhaust but even so it pops a lot on deceleration

Do they pop a lot with aftermarket exhausts. I know most people like this but i can imagine that it could be quite obnoxious after a while.

You can block the AIS with a plug in the pipe to reduce the popping but it's not recommended for stock exhaust as it aids in heating up the cats.

With aftermarket exhausts blocking AIS helps a lot to reduce the popping and no cats so no problem.

How do you block the AIS?

Thanks! Found Kev's instructions a few days ago and did it. It worked wonderfully. No popping at all!

Good stuff, glad you got it sorted!

I quite like the popping on mine so left it as it, I am slightly anti-social which accounts for that :D

My XTZ has OEM pipe but with the cats removed, still pops like hell and is louder than I thought it would be. Was going to invest in an after market can but having second thoughts now!

I liked it at first. But in the end I found myself twisting the throttle just a bit when decelerating to avoid the popping, so I figured it was time to do something about it. [emoji4]

If you have the same airbox as the XTx/r, it's a very easy mod to do. It took me a couple of minutes to find the right screw and a couple of minutes to put it in place. [emoji106]
