Electrical/starter problem

I washed my 2012 XT660Z by hand two days ago. When I tried starting it today, the dashboard went out when I hit the starter button. After a minute or two the dashboard came back on. Once again I tried starting it, but with the same result.

It doesn't help turning the ignition off and on again. I've owned it for a month and haven't had any problems starting it before. The battery was replaced just before I bought it.

Anyone experienced this or know how to fix it?

I'd look at the battery connections, and the starter solenoid connections. Either your battery is flat, or there is a problem with the connections. Check the ground/earth leads and clean or regrease the connections with a waterproof grease or vaseline.

I tried lifting the fuel tank tank and checking the connections. They seemed alright. According to the charger the battery was fully charged. And the starter cranked the engine easily.

I tried cleaning the connections for the ctek charger quick connection and at that stage everything looked alright. I turned the ignition on more times, and everytime it worked perfectly.

After refitting the tank I connected the cdi (I not sure if that is the right name, but it's the black electrical thing under the fuel tank on the left side) and tried starting the bike. And the same thing happened. I heard just a "click" and all the power went. Now I back to where i started and can't get light in the dashboard at all.

What do do?

Actually none of the electrics is working. It's completely dead.

All the fuses under the seat and the fuse up front looks alright

There are more fuses other than those in the main fuse box... Have you remembered the fuse on the main/starter relay? All the power to everything passes through this unit.

It has two fuses under clear plastic covers on top (one of which is a spare). Swap them over. Also check all the connections are good here; the two big threaded load terminals and the male spades on the unit and the females in the connector.

I checked the main/starter relay and cleaned the connections and greased them with vaseline. I charged the battery full and disconnected the 12 v socket. After that the bike started without any problem. I thought the problem were solved and have used it 3 og 4 times since then. It started perfectly every time.

But today, almost a month after, the exact same thing happened. Just a "click" and the dashboard went black again. I tried once more, after the light came back on, but the same result. After that the dashboard were just black and didn't come back on.

More suggestion on how to fix it?

Could it maybe be a broken rectifier?

This happened to me, I found it was a loose connection on the battery. Check the terminals are done up properly, the starter motor draws a lot of current on kick-over and it's probably this not being earthed properly that is causing this issue.

If you do get lights eventually, then it's not a fuse.
If you have no electrics, then you have surely blown a fuse at some point.

Removed the fuel tank today og checked the battery. Cleaned the terminals and checked the earthing. Didn't find any loose connections. Cleaned everything and put it all back together.

When I urned the ignition on after refitting it all, everything worked perfectly.

Hopefully it will work this time - fingers crossed

Thanks for the help
