XT660z overfuelling / not starting

Hi

I recently purchased a XT660z. On the day of delivery the previous owner washed the bike and when riding it to deliver to me the bike cut out. It then didn't want to start again. He was towed to a Yamaha dealer to have the bike checked thinking there was water in the electrics. All water has since been dried out but the bike is still at Yamaha unable to start. It cranks over but doesn't get going. When you try start it there is a strong fuel smell indicating overfuelling or flooding.

Yamaha seem to think there is an electrical problem and have been fault finding with diagnostics for 2 days now with no success.

Yamaha say there are no error codes on the diagnostics.

Yamaha also changed spark plug and oil.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Goodness Jared that is not such a good start to XT660 ownership.....

I am sure that one of our experts will be along soon to make some intelligent suggestions. My suggestion would be to remove the plug cap and dry it out, tried that yet??? Good luck and welcome on board!!

I know right! Not a great way to start but hey nothing I can do now.

They did dry everything out initially. Seems as though the Yamaha guys figured it out. Turns out the injector was faulty, it wasn't closing properly so just kept injecting fuel. They swapped injectors with another XT660z to test and all came right. Ran diagnostics again and all sorted.

Good to know it wasn't anything more serious.

Here's to many happy km's on the bike!

Cheers!
