WR forks

Hey folks, I had my ten trail riding for the first time at the weekend and as much a blast as it was, it seriously lacked in the fork department. I have heard or read somewhere that you can get WR forks to replace the OE ones.

Can anyone shed any light on this ? and what would need doing.

Yes, WR forks can be made to fit the Tenere by using a WR/YZ bottom and top yoke with the Z steering stem pressed in. You need to be careful though that you get the right yokes to match the forks as early WRs had 46mm items, which then became 48mm, and from 2005 (although still 48mm) they are 1mm wider than the <2004 ones!

I don't recall any info on her for a WR fitment on a Z (mostly WP), but these two threads will be of some use to you:

I would also give some serious thought to upgrading the stock forks. A lot can be achieved with little expense. I run Ohlins 6.0N linear springs, SAE10 oil and Teknik V4S valves (emulators) and it makes a world of difference. Maybe not as much as fitting a good quality USD setup, but more than enough of an improvement for the average trail/road rider and infinitely better than stock (with an better quality aftermarket shock at the rear).

Relatively easy, the fork will fit, however you will have to replace the steering stem, the OE one will do. The bottom clamp/yoke diameter is the same for WR and XT I.e. 30mm. The bottom bearing - the same, top bearing - use the OE one with the OE stem. You will need however to move towards one disc at the front and I would recommend going to 320 mm rotor to compensate for the lack of one disc ( the ten is on the heavy side). When looking into this direction I am not sure that the OE hub will do the job, most likely not. Better (if not the best) option will be to use WR front wheel and spacers. And last but not least - you will lose the steering lock. Of course you can modify to have a lock but still something to think about

Hope this helps

Showa USD forks from a CR250 bolt straight in with
a top bearing change...

should be a thread or something on it here...

I found this thread you posted. http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=20420 - You mentioned that you did it on the XTR though. Will this work the same for the XTZ?

Mind you: most replacement forks from the enduro and motorcross bikes have 300mm of travel. The fork might need modification, so it won't hit your radiator on full stroke...

And the fork most probably needs another spring/valve setup

and as mentioned you'll probably go back to one disc brake setup, so you'll need a matching master cylinder brake pump.

I would suggest to swap a complete front end:
- forks
- wheel
- master cylinder
- fender

but change/keep:
- fork stem

if you decide to go this route, make sure you do it right ;)

Is there a list of all the required parts for either the YZ/CR/WR swops and a basic guide?

It will be much easier to decide and source the parts if you have a list of what exactly you need.

There are just so many variations of this, it's hard to keep track on what will fit what.

The cost of the conversion from off the road is what I paid for my bike in the first place. Not gonna happen.
