I know I'm gonna get blasted for this but... I'm afraid (in my opinion) my head is worth more than 100... Arai for me.

Does a harder outer shell always mean that the helmet offers more protection ? I don't know http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/ge...helmet_review/

Even assuming expensive helmets are always better, are you sure in case of accident, the supposed "extra protection" of the hyper expensive helmet plays a role ?. I am not confident at at that in case I had an accident and managed to destroy the S4, an Arai would make the situation different. The rest of injuries would probably bad enough anyway. I am not a helmet expert so this are just personal thoughts

CaptMoto 11-04-07 17:32

Airoh have been making helmets that way in Italy for many many years and they guarantee safe crash impact strength as any other helmets.

uno 12-04-07 01:11

that helmet is super hot. I'm on a seriously clunky flip up visor VR1 at the moment. The rubber stripping started coming off the sides this weekend, and I haven't even exposed it to that much high speeds.

xterror 12-04-07 10:22

Hello Darth Vader!! I am looking for a new helmet, and that Airoh is one of the candidates. It has relatively large lid, how it behaves at higher speeds?

CaptMoto 12-04-07 11:04

Aerodynamic was one of the idea behind the design as this helmet which replaces the previous type called the Airoh Tyger http://www.bikingdirect.com/product/...er-helmet.html The Tyger was slightly noisier and bulkier, I have both and this one seems to be a great improvement from the previous, but don't forget any lid with a peak is bound to catch wind and at high speed (90mph+) it does tend to hiss when the wind is caught under the peak, I know of a lady who used to wear an Arai Tour X on her streetfightered fazer 600 and ended up with whiplash on her neck which her doctor blamed to the lid with a peak she was wearing. Therefore its not just Airoh that causes turbolence but Arai, HJC, or any other helmet with a peak.

blademan72 13-04-07 08:52

hmmm might upset a few people here, but when I look at that lid with the visor closed it reminds me of a birds beak....??!!??

midlife crisis 13-04-07 09:35

Had my S4 in bits yesterday trying to fit the speakers and mike from my comms kit, it was interesting to say the least. Much as I love the Airoh I must admit that it's build quality isn't as good as my old Nolan (same price) even if it does look a shed load cooler. I find it comfy, if a little loud but I'm not sure how it would fair in a head on, so to speak. That said, I guess you could say that about any lid. At the end of the day, no lid is going to save you from every eventuality but every little helps.

Just in case any of you S4 owners are planning on putting comms in it by the way; the speakers WILL NOT FIT under the liner and the mike WILL NOT STICK to the front mouth piece. My ears are now a little squashed but it does add a little sound proofing :112:

I love mine. Looks **** hot! Lot more peripheral vision than a normal helmet. Can be a bit noisy but it doesn't bother me.

trade cost via my M+P discount is 80 plus postage, althought 85 is a bloody good deal as well, that means they are only making 5 on each lid they sell, what do they charge for postage?

always a wise move, not a big fan of buying lids over the web unless you can guarantee its gonna fit.

CaptMoto 22-05-08 13:42

Well here's a tip for you all, J&S Accessories are official stockists of Airoh lids, find a local one to you and go try it for size (they sell them for 129 so don't bother) and then go back home and order on line the size that fitted you better.

As it was time to replace my Shoei and you lot recommend this lid I just got mine this morning (next day delivery) from Big Bike Book @ 89.99 delivered.

Now I can look to be part of the flock!

CaptMoto 03-07-08 13:33

desert 31-07-08 04:18

lol, it's the helmet i saw @ the same store i bought my xtx and bought it as well. it kicks ass. very light, and a wide vision area. if u intend to run in 130Km+ speeds all the time, u better remove the pick or simply lower your head when speeding.. ow and yea, matt black is teh collor u want.

canibefrank 31-07-08 10:40

Hi All,

I have an S4 been using it for about 4 months now, I have the grey one with graphics.

+
Gold rated.
Very light.
Excelent vision.
Visor hasn't scratched even tough I miss treat it.
Comfortable (mines a M, have a slim 58 head).
Easy to fit intercom (fits ok dont know its there, but mine was an ebay special using PMRs).
Strap release catch.

-
Peak can catch a little in the wind at speed but its easy compensate as long as you remember its there :).
Noisey face on to wind, whistles, but turn a few degrees to the side and its quite.
Cheep, everybody will have one.
Looks a bit odd without the peak.
