Possible purchase.
Right lads,
I am still looking for an xt 660 z and today I went to view the only one that has come up for sale since joining the forum. It's a 2009 northern gold coloured xt660z. The bike itself is in ok condition. It needs a few things like rear break pads, a service oil and filters, new tyres and a new front mud guard. The grey tank protects are marked also but I would put them down as a must replace as I'll be using the bike off road and more ten lightly if I did fit new ones would end up scratching them again. Anyway. The bike has 19,000kms (11,800 miles)on it and has done two trips to Africa and a trip to Spain. It has been used for purpose and has up grades to suit . Fat bars, Roks raiser Bash plate (adventure spec) Pivot pegs, Touratek seat plus original, Spot lights, Touratek head light guard, Tall screen and low screen, Panniers, Rota packs x 2 Touratek bottles x 2 (oil and coolant) The bike is showing signs of rust on the spocks and the Frame at the front. Nothing mad though. It also had the air box drilled for some reason. Owner daily a the previous owner did it when going to Africa. It has the lambda sensor removed also. Why????? My question is how much should I be looking at paying for this bike. All I have to compare it to in the UK is bikes with less mileage and no extras? I like the bike but I normally buy a perfect bike with this one I'll have to spend to get it right. Granted not loads about €350 and it should be 100% out side of what I can live with. Just don't want to pay over the odds. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...s/image_64.jpg Eric. |

Joking aside, I wouldn't like to put a price on it - depends on a lot of factors (use, servicing, number of owners, whether garaged etc.), not least to say the Irish market which I have no idea about. What I would say, and maybe useful to bargain with, is: (1) It may have been registered in 2009, but it's a 2008 model (the only year Khaki was an option). (2) The airbox should under no circumstances be drilled on the Z, yes on the X/R, but never the Tenere. The whole of the airbox casing is on the unfiltered side of the intake, so any hole in it will allow dirty air into the engine with increased wear and a shortened life - NOT good (especially if it has been to Africa!) (3) If the O2 sensor has been removed, what has it been replaced with? A bung? There has to be something, or the ECU won't work in the closed loop and the engine trouble light will be on. Is there a little white plug in device on the sensor end of the wiring? If there is, they don't work! On the plus side, 12,000 miles isn't a lot and there are some handy extras on it. Remember though, extras aren't worth much (if anything) in terms of the actual value; they just make the bike more attractive/saleable. How much is the owner actually asking for it? |
The engine light is on. Yellow light and is just covered over. There's been two owners on it. One in the UK an the lad now. No service history though. Didn't see what was plugged into the sensor hole. He just mentioned it as having been removed.
He's looking for 5800 For it as is. |

With the questionable drilled airbox, engine light on and no functioning closed loop engine management and no service history, I'd suggest that 5800 (4600) is a rather salty price tag! |
I figured it would be but with it been the only one forsale here in months I was hoping for the best but my gut is telling me no. So that's made my mind up so. Just to many questions and I defo can't afford to buy something that will bite me.
Thanks for the clarity of mind. Eric. |
