Hi all,

Am thinking of a new chain + sprockets for my XT660Z.

What would you recommend chaps ??

Cheers

Renthal sprockets (hard anodised rear) and Tsubaki chain kits are the best replacement, they last up to 4 times longer than the oem

Get them cheaper at B & C Express at this link

Thank You CM - exactly what I was looking for.

How hard it is to change it myself - any special tools ?? ?

Other than what's been mentioned already, the most tricky part is undoing the gearbox sprocket nut. Roll the bike up to a wall so the front wheel is jammed against it, put bike on the side stand, get someone to hold the back brake down with their foot whilst you crack the nut. Don't be tempted to do it in gear, it's not necessary and you may break something!

I forgot to mention that the Renthal kit from B & C comes with the exact number of links for that size of sprocket and a split link, which if installed properly is as safe as a closed link joint which need the chain riveter. After the original set wore ever so prematurely on my bike, I have always used those kits and never had one going wrong. I've found some old pics of the last kit I bought from them with the gold renthal chain too.
