first ride of xt660x

At last i got out for my first ride on my xt660x, i have added most of the mods, and dropped the forks 7mm , added after market cans ,kev mod 02 sensor, air box mod and stage 1 and 2 air filters and so on.Any way as i ride a fz1n and a cbr 959 all my mate said this was going to be a **** bike to ride and way to slow for me ?. and to be honest i was a bit worried about spending 3k on a bike just for a trip around lockness/Scotland in may. Well i was very surprised what fun it was just done 90 mile quick ride as weather is crap but had to get out on it (3 hour clean when i got back). the riding position was spot on seat was very comfortable so long rides no problems. handled really well even on new tyres. ok top speed was only 100 but 0 to 80 was fine even fun. could not fault the bike at all. think this may find a place with my other bikes, was going to sell after the trip but think its a keeper Attachment 6685

yep they are not to bad are they. i really do not see why people coat them off, once you know its not a sports bike. and work out they do not ride like a sports bike. they are lots of fun. i live 1 mile from the yorkshire dales so all the roads are twisty :toothy5: i can see when the summer gets here lots of race bike riders are going to get p**d when i pass them on a xt660x lol. to many riders have bikes that are to much for them. so really looking to have some fun on this when i am not out on my other bikes. ride safe mate.
ps
how is your gear change from 1st to 2nd mine is a bit clunky?

Hello lads.
Only recently purchased the xtx myself also and I'm trying to cram in as much riding now to confirm my decision, but having only covered around 150 miles I'm also well pleased with this thumper.
Having owned an enduro wr250 before I like this bikes steady torque curve as opposed to the 250s peaky power delivery.

http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/a...2/IMAG1706.jpg I meet up last night with another local rider to view his xtz as I'd never sat on one,and had seen very few on the roads here. Yes ,I liked the bigger tank and other bits and bobs but I will keep and eye on their sale prices as I'd find it hard to justify almost double the price of the x and only moving up a few years, and unfortunately not even my local Yamaha dealer has no demo or for sale.

Gear change is ok on mine

I would not keep my xt660x if it was my only bike as I like my speed. But as a second bike it will stay as it's perfect for riding the bad country roads and just for the days that you just want to have some fun on the twistie roads around here. I am only an hour from mount snowdon , plus only 5 mins from snake pass and all the twisties so lots of fun to have on it. To be honest really looking forward to getting out on it. Every time I go out on the bikes it's never under 100 miles and more like 150 to 200 miles as I have one or two routes I do all the time ( I know were the police sit on the routes not that I would brake the speed limit :) i like it more than I thought I would for a slow bike but the fun factor is the torque from 0 to 70. Just can not wait to see if I can leave some of the 4 cylinders riders on the twisties. Think I have a bit of a flat spot so may need a power commander I do have all the other mods, but will see after the next ride.

600 miles now

Well been out on the xt 3 more times now 150 miles each time. So have done around 600 miles in 4 rides. Still like the bike lots of fun will keep it . Would not take it on the motorway for more than 10 miles mind you. Going to have to get a screen as the wind at 75 plus is not good. But as for smile factor it's grate fun. Was going to take the fz1 out but jumped on the xt instead. Think I will have to change the new tyres after my trip. And put some sticky sports tyres on as the new ones are ok but can really feel them jumping about on the bends saying that they have not let go yet. Oh and it's blood loud , but I like it lol. Passed 2 or 3 sports/ up right bike riders at the weekend on twisties so if you know how to ride you can still leave the average rider behind on the bends and It is funny Watching them Trying to keep up. Next think suspension set up, going to start to play with that to see if I can sort out the handling a bit better. Does anyone know what weight the standard set up is for when it leaves the factory.ps I put a new clutch in and the gear change is spot on now

Glad to hear the gear change problem is sorted, as for the flat spot I have fitted a PCV to mine and had it set up by Motrac in Ellesmere Port on their dyno, nice smooth power curve now (pic), I have only ridden it once since though as my bikes are being stored whilst we have an extension done, but it was definitely an improvement it also has Arrow cans stage 2 DNA filters and Kev's O2 mod instead of the dynojet one ( as there is more adjustability )

Ride

I got out at the weekend as weather was nice. I got just over 300 miles in so got to give it a good ride. I have after market cans, kev mod 02 sensor DNA stage 1 and 2 filters.. Adjusted the controller to 5 and it's is spot on now. Only thing I have had is 2 times now bike just cut out once at about 40 mph for no reason pulled in clutch to change gear and that was it. Have Heard about this on these. Will have to ask kev on the fix.

I have a Tenere as well and for me it's the better bike for distance, they are both great fun and both do what they were built to do, the Tenere is heavier, and turns a bit slower, but with decent road tires it will still corner reasonably well for the type of bike it is, I take mine Offroad so use TKC 80s for a bit more grip on the dirt, but it's the engines that make these bikes what they are, in a word Fun
