Cam chain and tensioner replaced

At 105.000kms the camchain&tensioner were replaced in my '08 Tenere for the first time, because they're wornout. Is that average or good or too soon? That's the first major issue that has been done to my Tenere, but I think it's normal wear so no problem at all. It's still runnin' smooth and strong and it's a very reliable ridin' and travel companion. Very good bike, Mr. Yamaha! Still no oilconsumption and also still runnin' the OEM battery! I love this bike and it's still lotsa fun to ride!

Hi Dallas,
how did you know to change camchain and tensioner? Was the chain noisy? Me ten has 109000 km on it. Maybe I should check the tensioner and the camshain for replacement...But as your Ten mine is running smooth as well. No major issues with the engine. Well that's not true. No issues with the bike and engine at all ever since I bought it in June 2008.

After the last service the mechanic told me the chaincam and tensioner were due to replacement, because they became noisy and they recognized the sound as a worn camchain. It is recommended also to replace the tensioner as well at such mileage, so they did both. Together it was around 100,- Euros in parts, but it was a nasty job to do: they had to take off the exhaust to get access to the engine. But no problem, like I said earlier it was the first major issue but not really, because it's normal wear.

Did it seem quieter once the new one was fitted ?
Been thinking about doing mine but after 100,000 miles it still sounds OK.

Yes, it does seem more quiet and runs even more smooth then before the replacement. This is actually the most smooth runnin thumper Ive ever had(mostly XT's).
