I think I expected to much

I got a test on an 05 xtr at a local dealer, nice and very good condition well kept example ect....but power, wasn't impressed to be honest maybe I expected to much I don't know. Don't get me wrong it was torquey yes but not what thought....so I guess it's back to drawing board for me

Good luck and keep us posted with your findings :)

You're probably right but I can't help comparing it to the xr650r and rc30 I had, especially the xr that was an animal compared to this hence I find the xtr tame. If I did go for it it'd definitely need some tuning....I think 60+hp would be good but it's not even 50

Hi Michael, your right..the XR650R is a beast with awesome grunt!, that was my worry when I bought my Tenere. However as I rode off from the Dealership I knew I'd made a good choice. ..firstly it was pretty civilised compared to the XR, electric start, a key!, a battery, better lights. Secondly it felt good. .rock solid and lovely to be on. After I had run it in and started to push it a bit harder I realised that whilst I still loved it I was finding it a bit TOO civilised..!, the power delivery a bit restrained. With info gained from this forum I have done a few simple mods that have transformed the way the bike delivers it's power, and once I have bought myself a free flowing exhaust I'm sure it will be even better. Wether these mods translate into horsepower figures I don't know or really care..what I do know is the bike feels brilliant to ride. ..powers out of roundabouts with a great feeling of torque and grunt!. It's become a bit of a beast but with all the practicalities my XR lacks. I can off road it, tour on it, hoon around town on it. ....and the list of possible mods is endless. Brilliant Bike! Steve

Right....and it's ok folk if you do this and buy this n that you'll get close it (55-60hp) but I'd be aswell just going another xr ect if that's the case

If you're just chasing BHP numbers you may as well get an F800gs or 990 KTM....it's not what the XT 's are about. Depends on what you want from your bike!.

You're right too....it's because I was expecting it to be the same power wise but wasn't and left me disappointed
