when to check valve clearance. .?
Got five and a half thousand miles on my Tenere now. ...when would be advisable to check valves for the first time. .? Steve

I checked mine at 12K and they were still within tolerance!
If it's not discernably rattling I would leave well alone, but that's me!:058: |
Thanks, I'm thinking along those lines. Engine sounds sweet. ..just normal 660z 'busy' sounding engine!. Steve

Checked mine at 22,000 miles and they were fine.
Sounds weird at 28,000 so I took it all apart (3 times) and did them. Still ok at 44,000 miles. |
I checked mine myself at 6k because I thought it was noisier than it should be - both set of valves were too loose, the exhaust side slightly worse. Motor was much quieter as a result, not silent, but a noticeable difference.
Checked them again at 12k. Both sets spot on (exactly as I set them at 6k). Also checked at 24K and 36K. No need for adjustment, still unmoved! As has been mentioned above, unless your bike has a noisy, rattly and tappety top end or, is suspiciously too quiet, then leave the valves alone until at least the 12K recommended interval. Remember, too quiet is potentially more destructive than too loose. |
I think the service intervals are 12k but once its run in and the first check done it can be easily doubled.

Thanks guys, that's reassuring to know! . Steve

Heck Great Escape, I better ride more. Your less than a year old bike is catching up to my 5 year olds mileage. Sad state of affairs.

Hey Jacque, you will soon catch up...let me know if you to meet up again sometime. ...it's the Goodwood Breakfast meet first Sunday in October. Steve
