xtx dies when crack open the throttle

Hello all.

Although Im a newbie Im not really as Ive owned a 2005 xtx since 2007
When I originally joined this forum. Thats obviously a while ago now and have
Forgotten my user name etc many years ago.
So after many years of trouble free riding, Ive still got her and still very pleased.
Got another bike as well as, but the xt still makes me smile.
Cut to the chase: Hot or cold, if I wack the throttle open from the lights she will die?
Anything less than a wack and all is well and bike is perfect?

My thoughts: Maybe injectors need manually cleaning? Or could I just run some injector cleaning stuff thro? Im probably talking complete Boll$$ks?

Anybody out there with similar issues or can recommend anything much appreciated
Please. Im sure theres an easy answer to this and its not a really big issue, but in the last 12 months or so, have stalled at lights a couple of times and its a tad annoying.

Many thanks, in advance

A quick question: Does it die when you give it full throttle while riding, or just when you open it up from idle/standing start?

Bike starts as normal. But hot or cold, If you crack open throttle from the lights will die. When riding eg 50 mph, crack open throttle, and the xt travels as normal?

If it only does it off idle then it is unlikely to be something major such as the TPS or fuelling.

Often it can be as simple as the fact the idle speed is too low. It is quite common to report random cutting out when rolling on the throttle from idle due to this. The XT motor (and most singles) need an idle speed in the 1400-1500 range to avoid involuntary stalling.

The first thing I would do is check your idle speed and set it to 1450rpm. You will first need to access the inbuilt rev counter in the dash as follows:
  • Turn off engine RUN switch, switch KEY to off position.
  • Press both SELECT and RESET buttons and hold them down while switching the ignition ON with the key. Keep SELECT and RESET buttons held down for at least 8 more seconds. The display then changes to "DIAG". Release SELECT and RESET buttons at this point.
  • Press the SELECT button once until “CO” displays in the screen. Press SELECT and RESET buttons simultaneously again. “CO1” should now be in the display.
  • Once CO1 showing in the display, switch on the RUN switch and start the engine. Once started the rev counter should be displayed in the right side of the LCD screen.

Now you can adjust the idle/tick over with the throttle stop screw until you get a steadyish 1450 in the display.

See how it goes after that…

Thanks for that. Will give it a go. Although as you know the weather has started to get a bit crappy around these parts, so there maybe a long wait
for a reply. Cheers
