Kev mod and 02 controller

hi
In a recent ebay frenzy, i purchased this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3218259924...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It is Kev mod and 02 controller but im not sure if i can put on my bike... shoulda checked.

it has 66391236 on the controller but no other information.....

can i fit this? or is it for a different bike altogether?

Purchased as since fitting metal mule exhaust it to see if it calms the new surging it seems to have......

any help as always :) :) :)

You should be OK with the Dynojet O2 optimizer and that appears to be a genuine Kev mod, not a copy/DIY job. What colour knob is on the dial? If you have a multimeter you could check the range of resistance the Kev mod gives to give an idea of what version it is.

Yip that is one of my latest fuel mods.

Kev's mod will not help you if you have a PC fitted. What map are you running? Is it a custom map, or one downloaded from somewhere? A custom map may help. What year is your XTR?

In the meantime have a read of this thread and the links within it. Should give you some ideas to help with the surging.

The popping and banging is easily fixed by blocking the AIS - read this thread.

I dont know which map, i bought the bike with it already fitted. 2007 bike.

I will check the AIS pipe and get the PC map checked... Thanks.

If you join the XT Supporter's Scheme you can get access to a huge database of PC maps to try which are listed in the Ask Kev section of the forum (which is only available to supporters). There are loads of other benefits too and it's only a tenner to join. Click on the links in my signature line to find out more.

Will sign up soon thanks.

I am not too bothered about power as this will be my trail bike so i need smooth power for the trails. should i remove the PC and fit the kev mod ?.

No. Ultimately the PC does a more the same thing as the Kev mod, but does it specifically for any given engine speed and throttle opening so can be tailored exactly to your power/economy needs, and more importantly the bike's state of tune. The Kev mod changes the fuelling by a fixed amount (depending on manual adjustment of setting) regardless of throttle position/revs.

Bear in mind, both only affect the open loop fuelling which on post 2007 XTs with O2 sensors fitted. A Dynojet O2 Optimizer or Kev's O2 Controller need to be fitted in addition to adjust the closed loop fuelling. It is usually the boundary between open and closed loop mapping that causes the jerky throttle/surging on O2 sensor equipped XTs. This is where an O2 controller/optimizer helps.

What year is your XTR?

stanbloke 16-09-15 07:42

2007 is the year of my XT.

I have just had a camping weekend away and the bike returned 65mpg ( 145miles=10.14 litre==65.1mpg) but i was being "sensetive" with the throttle due to the surging. It does seem that it is happier at mid-range openings.

At 65-70mph its fine. Its just the lower rev range that makes me think that the PC has been set up for more power mid to higher rev range. when i crack the throttle open it takes off like a scalded cat !!.....Brilliant :rofl[1]:

I have no idea about checking the settings of maps etc, so if you know of a reputable Dynojet dealer who understands XT660 i would get it over to them to see whats what.

Thanks for all your help and advice so far.;)

stanbloke 17-09-15 14:30

Thanks for all the advice.

I read the info on this site and found......sprocket carrier bearing knackered, rear wheel bearings knackered !!!.

So... i stripped the lot out, cleaned and greased all relevant parts, new bearings, adjusted and cleaned chain/sprockets....Sorted!.

Much smoother on the throttle and massive difference in the surging issues.

many thanks.

Fitted

Well i fitted it finally.... not had chance really to check, but it did seem better on the way home, i'd just turned the dial to 3 pm....

Ill try and have another test tomorrow.. the exhaust still pops on the over run,,,
the surging wasn't that bad before to be honest, kinda figured it'd iron propper;y as it was a little annoying and seemed more pronnonced after it our from the new 2 to 1 exhaust fitting.

Stanbloke, check your chush rubbers as these made a massive difference for me, just stuffed with cushion flooring works well.....

braaaaaaaaaappp

Kev 23-09-15 11:55

You need to block off the AIS pipe to stop the popping in the exhaust.

nethen 23-09-15 21:50

..

Then it will stay unblocked cause I like it.
After a ride today. 3pm on the dial seems about right..
It's definately much smoother through the gears and in traffic.
She sounds happier. Not struggling :)

Thanks again :)

stanbloke 26-09-15 21:21

Nethen,

I've done the cush drive rubbers along with wheel bearings, sprocket carrier bearings too......massive difference.

Disabled the AIS today so i will see what the result is tomorrow. I opened the airbox to find it awash with filter oil !!!!!. replaced the KN filter with a std filter, for now.

Looking at Mitas E09 tyres as the ones i have on are past it now.

nethen 27-09-15 18:21

E 09 rear
Army 644 front are our default tyres now.

Pretty good on any surface :)

Happy Braaaaapppping :)
