Stock raptor 700 camshaft in a xt660x

Hi have any one tried a stock raptor 700 camshaft in a xt engine? I have seen the graphs of stage 1 cams vs xt but can't say if it would be for the better if I change my cam to the raptor one.

Yes it has been done, fitting a Raptor 700 +5mm stroker crank, you will need the Raptor stator + rotor, the ignition pick up needs to modified as well.

If I mount it straight in my engine what should I see, better hp up in the higher revs and loss in torque? And I'm just about ordering a cp 11:1 piston and have done som head tidy up and the throttle body is going to max bore. I don't want to do a big bore upgrade for this bike that will be when building a super mono engine later on.

Kev, i think you're talking about the crankshaft, right?

For the raptor camshafts, you need the decompressioner bits, look around for topics on them, plenty of info on this forum.
About the power delivery, i've compared alot of dyno graphs (raptor and xt) and the raptor stock cam is considerably worse overall than the xt's.
the power is approx. the same, while the xt's has significantly more torque, the raptor cam is just more linear, but i can assure you it's alot less fun.

If you'd pick a hot cam, i'd go for the stage 3 and fit a high compression piston and ported head, this will give a nice progressive torque curve.
Stage 3 cam only will really noticeably rob your torque and put it in the higher rev range and not so well, since the head is unported.

Think about it and decide whether you want torque or a high rpm rush, you can't have both with these motors (unless a turbo is an option :glasses2:

Thank you 0t2nie! From what I understand the setup I should use for my everyday commuter is the xt cam, with the mods I have (also throttle body is on its way to maxbore) and a high comp piston (I'm using ron 99).

All big bore, hotcam, stroking, overcharging is for later on, don't want to have that when going for vacation with the misses, can't take any more yelling telling me to have both wheels on the ground...

Haha, a recognizable situation there! :icon_joker:

Yes i'd say the stock cam is best for day-to-day driving.
A big bore and high compression piston makes that a better drive, from my experience, i don't have experience (before-after) with a bigger TB, so i'm curious to your findings with it!

My previous xt had a stock bore 11,5:1 piston, ported head and otr cam.
Was a blast to drive, but the stock cam would've given me a better drive altogether, i think.
My current xt is completely stock and it has more low down grunt than my previous xt, it just misses the higher rpm power, but honestly i don't really miss it.

I think a small turbo with light boost (0,5 bar max) would be an awesome thing to build, but so much stuff to calculate, adjust, etc.
I do think it can be pretty reliable, if done right...

im going to the dyno next week and make a before run and try to make one after TB bore.

Where did you get the 11,5 piston for stock bore? i can only find 11:1.. :)

probably it will be a big bore cylinder in the future but right now I have difficulty getting my wife to think that it is something essential just as she was planning for the winter holiday.

ot2nie 20-08-15 16:57

It's a 11:1 piston, but head was skimmed down to an overall compression of approx. 11,5:1 according to otr.
11,5:1 stock bore pistons are hard to find from my experience haha

Try getting a Raptor 700 5050 cam that will give low and high rpm power, but you will need to grind the underside of the exhaust rocker arm to clear the cam lobe.

The Raptor cam develops it power high in the rev range this cam in the XT is limited by the XT's rev limiter, the XT can will develop far higher torque when compared to the raptor STD cam.
