The Peak District
1 Attachment(s)
Hi guys, not sure if this is posted in the correct area or not, so feel free to reposition if necessary.
I thought I'd have dabble with the Tyre route planning programme to see if I could create a TomTom/Garmin file that overlaid part of the www.bywaymap.com website and invent a route in the Peak District of around 2 hours and 40 miles that would include a number of BOATS. Well after quite a bit of tinkering, here it is... Can you local guys give me a steer on how well this might work (I don't know the area) and also please feel free to send me some other "must do" BOATS or sites in the area. Once I've got enough mileage/places to visit to make a weekend of it, I'll create some extra sat. nav. daily routes. Then dependant on numbers or interest I'll put it together as a proper ride-out. In principal, how does that sound? Cheers CD |
Nice one. Like the sound of that

A bit of information that may help with your weekend planning.
An excellent meeting venue or not to be missed stop off is the Yonderman Caf at Wardlow Mires (very close to your planned route). http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUse...e_England.html Additionally the pub opposite has a campsite, not sure how big group friendly they are but its worth giving them a call. http://whatpub.com/pubs/SHF/107/thre...-wardlow-mires I must admit to never using the pub but I regularly partake in a small (believe me its not small) Yonderman breakfast on a Saturday morning. And sorry, not being an off-roader, I cant help much with trails. However you may find me joining you for the road sections.:icon_biggrin: |

Hi this looks like quite a route I'm from bradwell which you skirt past on your way to abney, are you planning on going down the old Road at mam tor at castleton? If so you may struggle with teneres through the pedestrian gates if not it's just a minor detour down winnats pass, not to put a downer on it just pointing it out. When are you planning on doing it as I'd like to tag along I also know of a couple of other lanes out towards Hathersage and Sheffield which may extend your route somewhat. If I can be of any help let me know.
Cheers Rich |

Whilst I am pretty handy at car routes, this off-road bike thing is new to me! I am looking for :HappyRoll_ANPIUI::rofl[1]::occasion14::wow::bbq[1]: But probably not in that order! |
Yep it's new to me too had race reps for the last 18 years I'll have a look at your route and see if we can tweak it in any way!
Regards rich |
Ok definitely don't think mam tor old Road will be a goer there are two pedestrian gates and a large metal gate at the bottom. Do you have a list of the Boats you propose to use?
|
hi 4xv,
teneres will fit through the gates on the old road no probs:bounce016: |
Nice work it's good to know

Hi guys, so I am going to the Peak's this coming weekend (18th/19th July) with my lad on his Triumph Tiger, to see if we can put a good route together for another XT660 weekend later in the year.
We're not sure where we're going to base ourselves yet or the timings, but if any of you "locals" were available to meet up and give us some pointers, that would be ace. Drop me a message with your mobile number or email and I'll arrange a time/place that suits you. My plan is to trace the routes, find good cafe's, pubs, camp sites etc and then create a TomTom/Garmin file. Now I am praying for sunshine! :computer: |
