Re-installing the engine guard problem
Dear Pros,
I am using XT 660Z for more than 1 year now. Everytime I deinstall the engine guard for some reason (changing oil, installing crach bar etc.), I can not re-install the engine guard back . Front screws and the holes do not match as if I did not remove it from there Does anybody else have the same problem? If yes, what is the solution? p.s. I only remove the front 2 screws and bend the guard down. This serves the purpose. Even though I don't touch the rare bolts/screw the front screws do not match the holes Thanks for the help, |
What bash plate are we talking about?
There are a good few available and they all mount slightly differently. If you're talking about the standard plastic Yamaha guard then it is almost certainly down to the two flimsy plate that hold the captive nuts for the front two screws. They are very weak and bend easily. |

Thanks Pleiades, |
Not necessarily. The holes in the back two mounts of the bash plate are not round, they are slightly slotted, so if you are not loosening these bolts the whole thing will tend to "walk" forward every time you hinge it down.
Loosen the rear bolts, fasten the front two first, then tighten the back two. If it doesn't line up like this, then have a go at bending the front mounting plates attached to the frame. |
