Dna3 cleaning and Kev's mod adjustment

Hi,
Greetings from Finland.

I started to use all DNA filter mods (1,2,3) and now I want ideas how often I should clean those filters? I drive normally about 70% tarmac and 30 gravel. Can you say approximately how often you clean those Filter.

Second question is about fuel mod. Is there a difference of adjusting the fuel mod, when it's cold or warm temperature. Mine is set to 6 o'clock when weather is about 8 decree celsius. when I close the gas, bike feel like it suffocate and when I turn gas it take small second before reaction.

Hard to say, everybody's individual circumstances are different. For reference, I do mine once a year, roughly every 10000Km. I'd guess about 10% of that is off road.

The thing to remember is all cotton gauze filters reach their peak filtration after a thousand Km or so. Cleaning too often isn't always a good thing; it can reduce overall filtering efficiency. You just need to strike a balance between air flow and filtering efficiency.

Kev's mod is tested at 20C and the recommended settings given are a guide at that temperature. If the ambient temperature falls the setting needs to be increased, if the temperature goes up the opposite is the case and you should back off the setting.

6 o'clock is about right for a Stage 3 set up at 20C ambient. I found that a drop of 10C from that required the dial to be moved clockwise one position, so 8C would be about 7 o'clock. Below 0C you'd probably looking at moving to 8 o'clock.

DNA recommend you should clean your filter every 3,000 miles.

Of course, I don't listen to this since I'm doing that mileage every two months. Too much effort.

Yesterday, I decided to have a look at the filters.

My stage 3 side cover was clean but needed oiling. You're looking for the cotton to be a consistent red throughout.

Stage 1 filter needed a blow-out with compressed air (from a can, not a compressor) since it was had some debris inside. Gave it a quick but careful wipe. Held it up to the light, a perfect red colour.

Put it straight back in.

Do them when they need doing, and not at any other time.
