There are essentially four 2-1 options for your XT660R. Here they are listed roughly in order of cost:

MTC - Cheapest option, using the stock low headers and a link pipe to allow a single can (and can be purchased with a forum discount):

Creptus - Custom built high level headers and single can:

Metal Mule (made by Scorpion) - High level headers and single can:

OTR - High level headers and single can (the headers can also be bought separately so you can fit a choice of cans, or source one from elsewhere):

I went the 2 into 1 route last year,I already run twin Akra's 1 and 2 filter holes in the airbox and a PC it runs well really well!! but hey you have keep looking so I bought a second hand system looked good and make's the bike look 100lbs lighter where the shock came was how it transform the engine and power characteristics.

The reality is the only way to find out and try one maybe going from a stock system to a 2 into 1 maybe a plus but after my twin Akra's it was a no from me but!!! if you have an R and will be doing the off roading thing that characteristic might float you boat.

I have got Metal Mule one, investigated for several months (back then MTC did not produce 2in1 system) and I believe MM is the best price/quality one.
If you ca afford - go for Akrapovic the finest on the market.
Anyway the weight saving is HUGE. The whole MM 2 in 1 weighs almost the same as one of the OE pipes. Saves around 10 kilos. And one should not forget the power gain. The sound is wonderful with dB killer on, without it I do not know yet :)
Whatever you choose, do not forget to remove/block the AIS, there is a very good thread here somewhere.
Last but not least you can search ebay for used piece but now as the season is on it will be difficult task.
Good luck

Don't forget if you order through the forum, rather than MTC direct, you get a discount.

No more 2into1

Reviving this old thread. :D

I'm finally in the market for a 2 into 1 side exhaust for my 2007 XTX. The original headers are quite banged up as I have used them as a skid plate ;) thus the requirement for a side exhaust system.
Have been browsing around the net and it looks like I'm out of luck.

Investigation this far:
* MTC - The only pictures of the 2 into 1 I could find indicate that the headers go below the engine and not from the side
* Creptus - They look damn good from the pictures BUT I'm unable to get in contact with them. No replay to emails. i suspect they went out of business :(
* Metal Mule (made by Scorpion) - Out of stock. MM claims that Scorpion " threw" the jig away. No info if they'll do a second run. Scorpion wasn't very helpful in this matter, but I'll try pestering them again
* OTR - The headers are too expensive for me plus I require getting the slip-on. Some forum posts claim that the headers aren't very well made and don't have any heat shield
* Akrapovic - Out of my budget
* Huzar - Ugly as hell. I'm afraid the headers require additional heat shielding as they seem to get very close to some components
* Dominator - Looks better than Huzar but one of the header pipes comes very low. This looks to be because the O2 sensor pung placement. This in-turn will probably interfering with a low profile skid plate like the one from MM or OTR
* Some other forum posts claim that there are some companies in Brazil that also fabricate a side exhaust. No luck in finding them and I can't read Portuguese
* I know a guy who can weld, maybe get some Raptor quad headers and modfy them, but currently I don't want to go this rout

I need the additional clearance the 2 into 1 system gives me.
Any suggestions o'mighty forum?
