immobilizer replaced by a used one???

did anyone out here have had his immobilizer replaced by a used one from another type Yamaha???? i need a new immobilizer and can buy used ones from other yamaha's for 150 euro. after that i have to send the immobilizer to a shop and they can reprogram the ecu and the key's for about 250 euro.

the antenna of the immobilizer is damaged, its just some copper wires around the lock, but it doesn't receive any signals.
i don't want the quick and dirty solution bypassing the immobilizer for 15 euro, i still want the possibility to sell the bike in the future.

any other tips and tricks regarding the antenna part????

Have you got an XT660Z? When mine packed up originally a shop tried various
other immobilizers from other Yamahas but to no avail. Also tried the immobilizer
bypass but that didn't work either. In my case the ECU itself was knackered so
had to replace the lot with a new unit.

You can just by a new immobilizer unit (antenna) and then code re-registering and register standard keys. the code registery is not a difficult thing just put the old code key in and turn it around and the immobilizer light will come on for one second and then its done. To register the standard keys there is another procedure.

5YK-8255P-00 is the partnumber for the immobilizer unit XT660Z 2008-2015
it is not cheap but you need a brand new unit

finally received my new antenna/immobilizer. stopped a few minutes at my house to try, couldn't wait til the end of the day.
connected the ecu and the immobilizer, mounted the gas tank and.................
The red blinking light on the dashboard has gone, only the fuel gauge is still blinking. (????why) trying to start but doesn't run yet, i smell gas and during start i see the engine and cooling light (i have to top of the cooling fluid still) coming on. further no red warning lights.
yes there is fuel, yes i replaced the fuel sensor.
so tonight another try and more time to think and solve (spark)????
keep you posted

have you code register the red key with the new immobilizer?

abstra 23-04-15 16:09

i don't know
is there something i have to do expliciet??????? got key's, ecu and immobilizer from a shop who did the repair, do i have to do something during startup for the first time??
albert

zipfer 23-04-15 18:13

first startup you put in the red key in and turn it around and the immobilizer light will come on for one second and then its done. Are the parts new or all used from the same unit?
..

zipfer 23-04-15 18:17

if its used parts all from the same unit and already everything registered it should've been ok. Maybe its not correct ecu?

abstra 23-04-15 19:13

zipfer
key's and immobilizer are new, and ecu reprogrammed. it is a originally damaged bike from 2013, all parts replaced now and even some add-ons.
the red light flashes once when i turn the key, all fuses are checked, i only hear a soft sound from the fuel pump, like a bee during start up. softer than i am used with mt tiger 1050. front lights aren't working yet ???? but with the pass button the high beam does work. (smell fuel after some attemps)
strange, maybe i should try a local xt owner with a data tool
but, tips alway's welcome and i surely hope it isn't the ecu

As I said in another post, don't get hung up on the headlight issue - it's nothing directly to do your non-starting issue, only a symptom. The dip/main won't work via the handlebar dip switch and headlamp relay without the engine running and the ECU receiving a pulse from CPS. It's normal for the pass switch to operate main beam though as it's a direct feed.

Looking at what you're describing here, I'd be pointing a very suspicious finger at the fuel pump. If it's making a noise, even a lame one, then the bike wouldn't appear to be immobilised. By the sound of what you describe, it isn't working properly, seized perhaps, possibly from lack of use whilst the bike was out of action?

If you can get hold of a Yamaha diagnostic tool, then you can test it in situ. Otherwise, remove it and test, or substitute for a known good one. The actual pump unit isn't that expensive to buy off ebay, so maybe worth rebuilding it? Ignore OE parts as they only quote a part number for the whole pump, filter, sender and casing, and it is VERY expensive!

thanks, i already replaced the fuel sensor and probably i have to replace the fuel pump also. i have a spare one from a r6. i can replace only the pump in the housing.
another possibilty? i remember myself connecting the ignition coil, it has two connectors and could i made there a mistake????? it isn't clear from the haynes manual whith connector goes where.
but i don't dare to switch them, would it hurt????

Probably a good idea, especially if you have a suitable pump unit. You can indeed just open the housing and replace just the pump.

It does matter which way round the primary coil (low tension) connections are made on the coil. The coil will not energise if they are reversed. Also the coil is earthed through the ECU, which controls the coil's discharge, so reversing polarity could possibly damage the ECU.

The red/black wire (ignition live from the kill switch) goes to the + terminal and the orange (ECU connection) connects to the - terminal. The coil should be marked + and - on the plastic body next to the male spade terminals.

Have you checked you are getting a spark?

abstra 23-04-15 21:32

Fixation error, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
checked all the connectors, and so on
but, because of taking the tank of frequently and lift the backside up, i had not much fuel in there and the position of the tank have caused my latest problem.
and now it started, yessssssssssss

i will keep you updated when its on the road again
thnx

:woo: That is good news!

finally it run's

after 3 months, collecting parts, refitting parts, trial and error, redoing the electrics, and so on
i made my first short testride with my new travel bike. a short one because it's not licensed or insured yet. it's a difference compare to my tiger 1050 and have to find out if it suits me. Both bikes will join me this season and looking forward to do some real distances on the XTZ.
thnx for al the tips and info on tis forum
