clarity on filters.?

Hi, can someone explain why DNA filters are referred to as stage 1,2,3..? And why people fit stage 123 not stage 1 OR 2 OR 3.? Obviously it's degrees of filtration, I'm just unsure why people say they have all three! Or maybe I'm being dumb!! Steve

It's easy to get confused and even some online retailers get muddled up! OTR is one example - they kind of imply that if you fit the side cover (with no other changes) this equates to Stage 2 (which it may well be equivalent to), but that isn't what a Stage 2 set up actually is.

Anyway, here's a rough guide (in pictures) that hopefully helps:

Notes:

Removing the snorkel effectively does the same job as fitting the Stage 2 DNA airbox top.

There is also a restrictor insert you can fit in the Stage 2 top cover to effectively make a Stage 1.5, which would be as far as you could go with out modifying the fuelling to suit.

Here's the comparisson of air flow so you can see what each one achieves...

Thanks Pleiades, that's exactly what I wanted to know. ..I can make decisions about what air filter mods I do with a bit more certainty!. Now all I need is to not feel resentful about about having to work and not being able to ride my brilliant Tenere EVERY day!. Thanks again for detailed answer...Steve

Clarity on Filters

Please confirm for me that if I fitted the DNA stage 1 filter and removed the snorkel i would have to either modify the fueling (which I don't really want to do) or fit the restricter insert you refer to as Stage 1.5?
Also, do you know where these restrictor inserts can be obtained from please?
Many thanks, and please please keep the informed comments coming!

Hello Tnr New Boy!

In the UK, get them from the DNA preferred distributor, which happens to be BR Special Tuning.

http://www.motorcycle-exhausts.co.uk

If you want to buy your Stage 1 filter, and Stage 2 snorkel replacement from them, you can have my restrictor insert for free.

I've never used it, and never will.
PM me your address.

Let me tell you though, the Stage 1+2 with Kev mod and Kev O2 mod is the best Power vs. Money trick you can do to your bike. 60 for the filters and another 90 (roughly) for the mods from Kev, and it's like an entirely new bike.

(Just to be clear, I don't work for BR or for Kev!)
