XT660Z - Suspension / Crossing Simpson

Hello fellow ten owners,

Can i just replace the spring to progressive in the rear without replacing the shock and still get results. Also is the Tenere good for crossing the Simpson Desert, the weight worries me.

There's a bit of info on the forum in the Search box.

Basically (imo) the standard Tenere suspension is rubbish. It's the first thing that needs doing, really. (I didn't, and wish I had).

If you're a confident sand rider, the Tenere should do the job, remembering that momentum is your friend! But I really believe a suspension upgrade, both ends, is a must, and if you're going to do it, it's best done properly especially the shock. Mine really wasn't good.

You can indeed. Hyperpro do a progressive replacement spring. It will improve things to some degree as the stock spring goes limp quite rapidly.

However, the damping on the OE shock is quite frankly shocking! Just replacing the spring isn't going to fix the damping and, in some cases can cause a miss-match between spring and damping rates, making the ride worse.

If you can afford it, then a new shock, built for your weight/load requirements is the way to go.
