SURGING: All the links to fixes and help in one place

How do I fix the surging on my XT?

... is a question that is asked time and time again. So, to make life a little easier for everyone, I’ve put all the links to surging fixes and help in one place for easy reference.

Most of the mods listed below apply to the R and X models, which suffer the worst from this issue, but several are relevant to the Z as well. Many are cheap, and some don’t cost a penny to carry out; they are all relatively simple to do with basic tools and skills.

Just remember, that surging cannot be totally cured, particularly on bikes from certain years, but it can be improved considerably and almost totally eliminated on most models.

Before attempting any of the above, make sure you bike is properly serviced, with a clean air filter, good correctly gapped spark plug, a tankful of fresh fuel, idle speed correctly adjusted to 1400-1500rpm and the correct chain slack.
