Fitted a PCV to a 2011 Tenere

I recently bought a PCV for my XT660Z from OTR - the EUR/GBP exchange rate is pretty good and it works out at 260.

I fitted it - which was a bit of a fiddle as the two pin white plugs that connect in behind the rear brake reservoir (I forget what bit they are) aren't quite long enough and the PCV loom seems a little tighter than I'd like.

I also fitted a map changeover switch to the right hand grey plastic inner - you can see it in the picture below. The LED is my charge warning light a very handy piece of kit.

I've decided to run it stock with DNA S1 filter at the moment - and my Lords what a difference! Great pick up and can be ridden through town with ease at sub 2000 RPM. I'll change it in stages, apply the right map and see how it feels.

Ultimately, I'll be removing the cat from the stock exhaust and running the Stage 2 airbox lid (no-snorkel). I have a suitable map to start from for this and I'll hand it over to a local dyno firm to tweak the map.

I also want them to develop a second map for long distance fuel economy work - hence the switch.

But so far I'm really impressed and that's on a stock setup!

Welcome to the world of correct fuelling - and what a difference it makes! :D

Out of interest, did you manage to get at the fuel injector plug without completely removing the tank?

It's the crank position sensor connector. Mine wasn't too bad to fit, if anything I ended up with too much spare loom?

I removed the tank as I wanted to add the switch and run the cabling to the PCV box.

I suppose it could be done but the hassle factor would be so much it would be easier to take off the tank!

I tried several variations to get it nicely routed but couldn't avoid it being a little too taught for my liking. To the extent I'm going to cut the PCV wires to the CPS and extend it a touch - about 25mm.

The instructions said to route it on the left of the frame but that was a total non-runner.

It is possible to do with tank in situ. I managed to do mine without removing it - just by propping it up at the back, but it was a little tight releasing the injector plug.

I'm not sure who wrote the instructions, but I totally agree with you, the suggestion to route everything on the left is mad, especially as there's nothing on the left of the bike you're actually connecting to!

I have an exhaust (stock with cat removed) for sale if you want it, but I'd suggest going something a bit lighter!

I wouldn't worry about a second map for 'fuel economy'. I have stage 3 filters with a PCV and I'm still averaging 56mpg...

And this bike roars now :-D

Interested. How much do you want for it?

I like the look of the stock rear end and I think the replacement exhausts always look a bit odd - as if they're not supposed to be there. Although, beauty and all that...

I was hoping for more than 56 mpg in "economy mode" - I like to go further afield (we went to Tiblisi and Moscow this year) which to get there in my leave time means motorway miles to cover Western Europe. My plan is to have a map for motorway cruising to keep fuel costs down and have a normal map for day to day use.

I'm not too bothered about balls out power - I'm happy with the stock bhp but I'd also like a nice smooth curve.

Not sure how much, pm me if you'd like to make me an offer.

Yes the single can looks different but i did enjoy changing a 7.5kg exhaust for one that weighs 1.6kg

Maybe by riding carefully, under 4,000 rpm... But that's boring :-D
