Scottoiler swingarm attachment point

Hi All,

The swingarm has a predrilled hole that's too big for the M6 and too small for the M8 screws, does it need threading? Would I thread for M7? Do I need to enlarge the hole if I want to thread for M8. I'm wary of drilling the swingarm as I've not drilled metal before and certainly not something as crucial as this. I want to keep the install as simple as possible. I've had the scottoiler for a few months and been put off by this obstacle. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

:eusa_think: Not sure why you need to drill anything?

The simplest way to attach the dispenser nozzle (which I assume is what you're talking about) is by fitting the plate behind the axle nut.

If you want a "clean" installation then you can route the pipework through the inside of the swingarm and out through the drain hole underneath (which I guess is the hole you mention). The simplest and quickest way though is to use the plastic clips supplied with the 3M sticky pads on and route it outside the swingarm.

I certainly managed to fit mine without going near a drill? Cable ties and a 22mm socket was all that was required.

Thanks for the quick reply, your photo reminded me of what I forgot to mention: I've got a self locking axle nut? I don't have the same nut you have, mine's a solid unit that doesn't come apart - when I adjust the chain tension I only use a socket on the right hand side. I've got a 2009 model if that changes anything.

Erm... It sounds like you've got you axle inserted the wrong way round?? The welded end should be on the right (brake side).

Does the other side look like this...

Yay, thanks Pleiades, that's it! In my defense, it's my first bike and that's how I bought it... I presume swapping it around is no more difficult than tensioning the chain. Thanks again, i can now ride into the winter with one less thing to worry about.

Yes, it's pretty straightforward if you've got a centre stand, otherwise you'll have to prop the bike so the back end is off the ground.

A little tip... Stick a block/wedge of wood under the back wheel before you withdraw the axle; it will stop the wheel dropping and keep the spacers, caliper etc in line and make reinstalling easier.

If you fancy a bit of a challenge, you can fit a KTM chain guide, detailed by stoicbloke in his post here:
http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=17951

You end up with a great place to site the scottoiler tube.
It just takes a little playing with to get it fitted. I used the existing drain hole in the swingarm, drilled that out and another hole, dropped two bolts through and fitted the chain guide plate to it.

The scottoiler runs through the swingarm and out to this guide.

Took me a couple of hours to get it right, but since then I haven't had to adjust my chain in over 10,000 miles.

I read the bit on your site and followed some of your ideas, thanks! Cable tied the outlet pipe to swingarm though, after passing through swingarm which worked out ok for me.
