Engine waterproof

Hi community,
I was just wondering if an engine, especially the Tenere engine, is waterproof. So to say is there an other way of water penetration than through the air box or exhaust? Maybe the engine breather system?
I must admit that I havn't thought of it any time. It just came to my mind.

Cheers
Marcus

I have dumped my XTR in rivers a few times...
It's as water proof as any other bike...
I have filled the motor / pipe with water..
motor wouldn't turn over had to remove the plug
& pump it out.. drain the air box
Never had a issue with the electrics after a drowing...
The trick is ..If yer going to put it down in deep water
try to hit the kill switch before it goes under.. then it's
less lightly to suck water into the motor..

I have drained some bikes myself:-) and never had any issue.
My concern is more the way can the engine oil be spoiled by any chance?

If you put your bike down in water it is always a good idea to dump the oil at the earliest opportunity, no matter whether you think its gone in or not. It's not just the water that's the problem, a small amount will evaporate and exit through the crankcase breather. The trouble is river and standing water will have silt, sand and god knows what else in it, which ain't going to be good for your motor. In the top end this debris is not so bad as most of it will find its way out fairly quickly, in the crankcase it will be trapped, until you do something about it manually.
