Highly technical xt660z question. Brace yourselves
I've bought some new yamaha badges for the side of the tank. It sounds pathetic but has anyone got any experience of taking the stock ones off? I'm referring to the round tuning fork badge. I don't want to rip it off and it takes half the paint off.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks Dan |
Nothing more technical than a hair dryer is required!
Gently warm up the decal, no need to go mad though, remember it is a petrol tank that it's stuck to! All you need to do is get it warm enough to soften the adhesive and make the decal more pliable. Once you've got it warm, pick at the edge carefully so as not to scratch the tank and then peel away. I've found a scalpel can be handy to carefully lift an edge and get it going. Once you've got it off, white spirit will clean up the residue without damaging the lacquer and degrease ready for applying the new one. Just as a note all the decals on the various Teneres can be removed this way except the small Tenere mountain logo on the early black bikes (like mine). For some reason, only known to yamaha, it is actually under the lacquer!? |
Thanks for the advice. Sounds silly but I just wanted to double check that every attempt to remove them hasnt ended in paint damage and then I go blundering in to it

I thought that they have clear coated over the decals on the tank and it will look silly if you remove them being a different color under. I may be wrong that's just what I was told
Time spent without rod in hand is time forever wasted. |
I'm just replacing the stock one with a different colour one so it will still have a badge in that location.

Don't worry. The decals are all applied over the lacquer apart from the Tenere logo on early black bikes as mentioned.
