Hi Weave McQuilt, which Dyno are you using mate......Brian Grays by chance?

WeaveMcQuilt 05-09-14 14:58

Yeah, Brian Gray.

I'm off there on Monday having blocked my AIS with a tube clamp.

Exan exhaust should be on by then too.

Oh ok, not had too much feedback on them, but Nick down at PDQ is bloody good if you have any issues.

Well, horrific news...

Huge knocking + banging sound coming from lower part of the engine.

Sounds like a big end problem.

Two weeks and 600 miles after the power commander went on.

More news to follow...
Not good.

I wouldn't necessarily panic at this stage. Could very well just be a loose crank nut on the primary side - it's not unheard of and can make a shocking noise. Easily sorted too and won't have caused any damage if caught early enough. Remove RHS engine cover and check the torque of the nut.

Read this.

I very much doubt it's anything to do with the PC, more likely just coincidence.

Just watched (listened to) the video attached to that thread and it sounds exactly like that. Only appears under load - more prolific on engine braking.
Got my fingers crossed for that and hopefully nothing more serious!

I was on my way to work with around 50 miles to go when I noticed it.
I'd just bought and attached a hoffman clamp to the AIS pipe, ready for a retune this week.
A mechanic had a quick listen to it at the roadside before he advised me not to ride it and we recovered it back home.

The engine sound changed recently since I added the Adventure Spec Bashplate... A high pitched 'tinny' noise which I had down to the aluminium plate vibrating at high revs.

Then the knocking showed up.

Bike is now at the dealer (with assurances that the PCV fitting will NOT affect my warranty) so all being well and good, it should be fixed under warranty.

Will keep you posted.

These are exactly the symptoms you'd expect with a loose crank nut. Let's hope it is that, as it really doesn't take long to sort. Fingers crossed.
