Which yr XT is easiest to fix fuel prob?
 

I just received the XT modding manual,

I'm blown away, its absolutely brilliant, so much info.

I have lots of reading to do!!

I have a quick question though... I plan to read the manual thoroughly, but hope some ppl might be able to give a quick answer on this so i can get out and buy my bike.

I'm planning to buy my XTX second hand in the next few days, I was looking at an '04 but I read that its one of the harder models to fix the fuelling issue.

Could any of you recommend which year model (between 2004-2008 due to budget) I should try to buy, which will be easiest for me to get the fuelling running right???

So having read through some of the manual, it appears that the late 05 - 06 model is the best bet for fuelling without any mods?

From what I remember when I read it, it's just the early models with the ecu ending in 00 that are more tricky, the easiest but not cheapest way is a power commander,
I dropped a Kev fuel mod, upped the co setting, air filter, really sorted mine, like I said on your other post it's still there a little but it's very much improved

Yip late 05 to end 06 with a ECU ending with 01.

Thanks for the tip! I found an 05 XTX, If I was to find out it's got the 00 ECU instead, is it a big enough issue to reconsider buying the bike?

Not IMO no. I have never found any of the models THAT bad that it would put me off buying one.

Thanks Weeksy, my only concern was as a new rider the surging might catch me off guard, but once it doesn't occur in a dangerous manner.

I wouldn't be technically minded enough (yet anyway) to start drilling or chopping and changing wires in the loom to fix issues, but I wouldnt mind spending a few quid on something like a power commander if applicable.

The surging/hunting is more of an irritation than a massive lump of power like an on off switch... you're riding along and it gets a bit chuggy for example at 30mph... it doesn't drop to 10mph than to 50mph in a nano-second.

I see, thanks. I'd imagine its something that you subconsciously adjust to and accommodate for if you have to deal with it.

TO an extent yes, if you've ridden a Superduke you'll know the same sensations.... you end up riding a slightly different gear/rpm, as it's more an RPM that effects it rather than just the actual speed.

I still get a fraction of it on my fully sorted 2010, 30mph is a LOT nicer in 3rd gear than 2nd.. even though the engine is labouring a little, it's a lot smoother..

But I'm rarely riding at 30 :)
