Yes, how does the airflow compare between DNA and a foam filter?
|
The DNA will flow more air.
There's no black magic with air filters really, it's pretty simple: filtration is inversely proprtional to air flow. The more flow, the less effective the filtration and vice-versa. Filtration versus air flow is just one big compromise, you can't have the best of both. A bit like tyres really, you either have the on-road or off-road dedicated, and then there are the all the compromises in between, neither great at one or the other. You can't have your cake and eat it. I'm with everyone else: Cotton gauze for road use and infrequent off-road work (in low dust conditions) to gain maximum flow and for lots of off-road work and dusty conditions use foam. |
+1. No doubt about it, in my experience foam is the go for dirt work.

Thanks, iv'e just ordered a Pipercross
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PIPERCROSS...13&hash=item20 |
The glue on my Pipercross filter dissolved when cleaned with petrol....so into the bin after a few glue attempts.
I ordered an OTR one after which can be rinsed with petrol. I need a petrol friendly one as I clean mine en route when in Morocco. Just a point to consider :) . |
OTR and air box lid
I've just bought the OTR filter. I'm running it with the stock airbox lid and snorkel. But when my Kev mods arrive I plan to open things up more. The OTR info says you can use their filter with the snorkel removed. Does this work ok and still provide a good seal, or is it better to buy a DNA Stage 2 airbox lid? I don't mind spending the cash if it provides a better solution and the opportunity to return the bike to stock, but equally happy not to buy one if there is no need.
I can't work out if you remove the snorkel if you can refit it again in the future? |
I have my snorkel cut and pared off and it fits just fine.....I didn't feel the need to buy anything else to be honest.
:) . |
Works fine with the snork off , and the Kev mod is a must :smilies0349:
|
When you say with the snorkel off do you mean removing the snorkel from the metal part that screws down or does the otr foam filter come with it's own lid to screw it down to seal?
Time spent without rod in hand is time forever wasted. |
Where the snorkel comes out of the top of the filter cut it off and then pare the rest off until you're close to the circumference. The OTR filter is shaped like a top hat as it were. The 'hat' is put into the air box and the rim is then squeezed down upon by the snorkel housing when it is screwed on again.
